This is the first time I've ever attempted the infamous Jeff Lynne sound and I have to say that few things in life are more fun than piling on layer after layer of vocals and guitars. I lost count but there are over 20 vocal tracks and at least 10 or 11 guitar tracks. Fun, fun, fun. People tell me smoking crack rocks is the most addictive habit on earth. Those people have obviously never been sucked into the Wall of Sound abyss.
I was inspired by Pete McDade's comments about how he likes to see musician's neighborhoods in their videos. It was a good excuse to try this experiment with video speed. I made a mix of this song at half speed, lip synched along with it and then sped the video up 200% to match the original song tempo. The result is jerky, chaotic and slightly surreal but perfectly in synch. I did that 3 times and then juxtaposed them using my patented "headache edits". The poor man's Wang Chung.
An odd and recurring comment on my theme music videos is "you hardly ever show your face". So here is way too much of my worn out, sleep deprived face with the most unflattering angles and lighting possible. I don't really look this distorted and wrinkly if you step back a foot or two. Or maybe I do? LOL
