The storytelling there was so good. Literally, from the beginning till the end. The tension was present and the mix between GoPro footage, photos taken and you explaining the important parts face camera were all very well made. Melting your analytic brain and your artsy flow gave this awesome kind of results. I don’t care if I have to wait half a year to let your continue wandering to this kind of content. This is it. You got the moves like Jagger Reggie. This is exactly what people would call short film except that you are genuinely giving us delightful real moments of people most’s important life. I would love to see the reaction of the married ones after seeing this short film. Keep pushing, you are rocking to the moon 😊

Hotshoe covers are not just cosmetic! I always have my strap and clip setups to point the lens down. I always use lens hoods. Not because they reduce flairs (they do) but because they reduce fingers, zippers, moisture etc from landing on the lens.

Yeh, I had a feeling that they would hold up ok in the rain, the issue would be coming back inside. I would prolly have tried to shoot the outdoor ceremony with just one camera and then leave the other in the car. Having a dry camera to use for the indoor stuff later would save a lot of stress and you could already start drying out the wet camera immediately with silica bags.

In our trip to Hawaii I heard of the sudden rainy weather ☔, which got me concerned with my X-T4, so I left my hot shoe cover on, and the camera handled light rain like a champ, aside from occasional water 💦 droplets on the lens, but as soon as it started to downpour I put on the JJC rain cover, it's like a plastic sleeve that goes over the camera and part of your arm 📷🙋. So it works like expected, and for a budget cover it was money 💵 well spent. Just that the warmth of your hand can trap humidity over time inside that plastic cover, and it can fog up both the lcd and viewfinder, just open up the bottom part on occasion, let some cool air in ❄ and you've got perfectly dry gear. The only thing that got wet was my ND filter but the waterproof coating saved the day 🤣 a couple of blows and the water slides right off, no touching or wiping necessary. I'm glad your gear survived, but please don't torture test them that intensively next time 🤪 Awesome video and awesome photography Reggie. Keep'em coming 😎📷

@@Canadianforestfairy couple of simple reasons actually, I got good timing with the launch announcement of the X-T4, the video features announced, the fully articulated screen, and the promises that we'd have better AF performance which never really came true 🤣👍 I basically liked that th X-T4 was a more hybrid camera use than the X-T3 since that one priorited photography experience.

Very, I shot in Edinburgh on Christmas Eve in the pouring rain all day with my X-T3 with the 16-55 and 10-24. Yes, I swapped the lenses during the day. I did that under cover and paid careful attention to the lens mount for water. My camera was at my side all day in the elements. No problems.

I think the weather resistance thing is oversold. In heavy rain, it would probably be best to use a rain cover like Think Tank sells. I've used them doing news and sports. Water and electronics are not a good mix -- especially remembering that Murphy's Law rules photography. Good job on getting the shots for the client. Eddy Summer's comment about keeping one camera in the car is a good idea.

My opinion is that the problem wasn't the rain or the wheather sealing but that you put the camera from out inside without take some precaution!This would happen with any camera and lens!You should put everything in the bag before get inside and give it time to anjust to the temperature! From all seen what Fuji suggested is using the dedicated hotshoe plastic cap, it small but can save your camera and day 100%. Not using flash or trigger outside from the footage visible and the hotshoe is perfectly exposed to all. I do not own any WR lens but for sure will not remove that small plastic thingy on the hotshoe unless required to attach something.

Thanks for making this video. It's a topic that generally doesn't get much coverage. It's good to learn about some ways to dry out my camera if I ever do get water in it again. It's also some good info on the WR limits of Fuji X-system gear. I have taken my gear to shoot while in the rain and have generally had good luck. I say luck because you can't always predict when water might get in. The most severe rain that I've done shooting in was in Alaska. I was outside for about an hour in very heavy rain and windy conditions such that rain was flying horizontally because of the wind. My lens front element got wet despite having the hood on. But I did not notice any form of water ingress whatsoever. Even after going back indoors and waiting for an hour just to see if condensation would set in.....and nothing.... So I figured that my set up (X-T2 + 18-135mm) could handle at least that level of rain and wind. With the same setup (body and lens) I did get some water ingress in a much milder storm and with an even shorter time outside. I was quite surprised. I just chalked it up to bad luck that I got water in the camera. The inside of the EVF glass had some condensation but that eventually went away and everything still worked fine. The risk of water damage is not going to stop me from shooting in the rain because gear is replaceable/repairable but the opportunity may not be around again!!

Thanks for a great video topic. I guess the lesson I take is WR is weather resistance not weather proof. I myself rarely if ever shoot with the camera directly exposed to rain, but living in a cold climate I frequently shoot in -10c to -15c temperatures. When this happens I always put by gear in a Ziplock bag before I go indoors and slowly let the gear come to indoor temperatures before I pullout SD cards 👍 so far so good.

We create a craft and we use certain tools of the trade to get the results. Gear especially camera gear is tempromental, not always suited too or applicable. When the wording weather proof or werther resistant is printed on something I guess we feel it's a green light to use it in all conditions. I enjoy so much taking my xt100 out it's fun it looks cool a bit small in my large hands but I don't worry about it getting wet. If I had a GFX 100 that might be a different story especially the price in Australia.

But on a holiday with some humid climate, the cam stopped working on the third day of fourteen days. So the rest of the shoots needed to be done via my iPhone 8 these days. After technical check by pentax service, that camera was marked as being "broken". Luckily my camera/ gear was insured and i got a replacement. That's being said, i've become more cautious about the whole WR "thing".

I had a similar experience with my X-t4.. Only that isn't completely recovered. I was out shooting some old WW2 military bunkers along the road in northern Sweden in what I would call rain or drizzle. My issue is that even if having the camera in a dry bag after. It stopped charging. So I contacted Fujifilm and sent it in for repair.. After month of waiting due to them sending it to UK and getting stuck in customs I got it back with a short note saying "beyond economical repair". We'll this means I had to claim it under my own insurance. Which worked fine... it costed me a little but I got a new X-t4 now....Well, it turns out that after sitting for months, to old one works again now, except I cannot charge the battery while in the body and every time I pull the battery to change it, the camera resets within seconds... So, this is now my spare body for extreme weather use.. Good thing I tried it again and just didn't scrap it.

Thanks for these great insights. I have a XT2 for more than 5 years now. And I love it. It takes great photos and is very robust. I had 4 or 5 shoots in heavy rain and it survived them all without any problems. The half-way shutter issue occured once on a dusty and moist October morning, when I took some pictures in the wet grass. I have lost the hotshoe-cover too ;-) And - lucky guy I am - it never made any problems ever. But it´s good to know, that this could cause some damage, so I will cover it in the future. Please do us a favour and share the link from fuji with us, that they sent you to learn more about the weather sealing of fuji-cameras (it was shown in the video on 10:35). I’m fairly certain it’s comparable. I think one thing to remember is the other camera was unscathed. So it’s mostly due to the hotshoe of one of the cams and lack of cover

Thanks for covering this: I always wonder how my X-pro3 will handle rain! Never thought about the hotshoe cover and uv filter as adding protection. I always have a light backpack with a plastic bag in it in case of a serious downpour....would have been good for your 10 minute unnecessary exposure hiking to the shoot, as well as for keeping the second body dry. Wondering if the moisture will have lasting effects down the road....? Appreciate the video!

I took the x-pro3 snowboarding with the 33mm f1.4. Other than having a sandwich bag with the silica gel packets for moving indoors, the camera and lens did not fault at all… Just keep the batteries out of the camera and close to your body if you aren’t using it for a while and it’s in a bag… otherwise the battery will drain until heated again…

My xt4 got rained on so hard at a Trump rally once and I was amazed at how well the weather sealing worked. It was raining all day and I was out there for about 5 hours at the press area my camera was drenched and as a bonus that cleaned the dust I had on it from a gender reveal 🙃.

‘Weather Sealed’ is NOT weather proof. Never had any issues with my Fuji rigs in snow, rain, ext…but I learned a hard lesson back in the 90s with my then Canon system. My Canon EOS1N was supposedly weather sealed, so I stood out the elements, freezing rain and snow for an hour shooting for a local paper, well, the dummy (me) believed the hype from Canon and well, I guess you know the rest of the story. I finished up the gig with my backup A2e (after bagging it up). Never believe the hype, it will come back and bite ya.

I ruined an X-T4 under very similar conditions. Put too much faith in the the “weather resistant” claims and you risk destroying your gear. Very frustrating and I’d like to see Fuji take this more seriously. Improve the WR and put an actual rating on it the way Oly does.

Weather resistant isn’t the same as weather proof
@RichardSilvius
@RichardSilvius 2 жыл бұрын
@@Reggiebphoto yeah I get it, but still. They make these unquantifiable claims about “weather resistance” as a marketing trick, and some of us don’t find out until too late how ineffective it really is. My advice is to treat your WR kit just like any other regular kit. Don’t trust claims of weather resistance unless you’re cool with replacing your gear, or unless the manufacturer is willing to rate the sealing so you know what the limits really are.
