It’s been super disheartening to see people dismiss Rise because they see samurai and immediately compare it to Ghost of Tsushima, lol. I’m enjoying this game a lot more than GoT to be honest, sucks that for some people graphics are the end-all be-all. The gameplay and customization are top notch in Rise.

I think the only aspect I haven't seen mentioned yet is just how varied the missions are. There is no recycling of the missions, every single one is different with different characters and different landscapes and events. They are all so unique and well thought out and each one includes a different bond with a character to strengthen. There is so much variation and you can really tell how much writing and thought they put into each one its crazy. Great video! I was really disappointed with how everyone was treating this game, because I just finished it with about 40 hours and im gonna try the platinum too! Thank you for adding some positivity !

72hrs in. Main story complete. Going for 100% completion now. I actually enjoy putting the time in to do everything!!! Overall 10of10 game in general.

I know, right? Reviewers have been soooooo overly harsh with this game. I'm having so much fun playing it, and the story is actually interesting AF, especially bc it's set in the Bakumatsu. That means Isshin Shishi characters, Shinsengumi characters, historical figures mixed in with made up characters... I'm loving it! I mean....any Rurouni Kenshin fan is gonna be all over this game.

I absolutely agree. Honestly, I like GoT a lot, but from the beginning I didn't understand why Ronin was compared to it. The only thing both games have in common is that they take place in open world Japan and there are samurai. GoT is a love letter to Master Kurosawa and the romanticized depiction of samurai and Japan, it feels more like a visualized legend and fable. Ronin rather tries for a more naturalistic depiction, of course it is still fiction with some fantastic elements, unrealistic inventions, ninjas and effective swordsmanship duels, but it still seems somehow more believable. Ronin is a great game, I have experience with Team Ninja games so I knew the combat system would be addictive and it is, perhaps the most out of all their games so far just because of the amount of weapons and different styles. Honestly, if I had to recommend a game, I would recommend Ronin with a clear conscience, because I find it much better as a game, although it doesn't have as nice visuals as GoT, but I find the gameplay much more fun. Ultimately, both games are great for samurai and Japanese fans, but each is trying to do something completely different. PS:Sorry for my English, it's not my native language.

After watching this I've started Rise of the Ronin, & I'm having a good time. I had too hard of a time with Nioh 1 & 2 causing me to quit. I thought this would be the same. Your review changed my mind & I'm having fun. I'm fine with the AC approach. I enjoy wandering the countryside & seeing all the small & large villages. Yokohama feels great. I've also started finishing the evening with a samurai movie or at least part. I just finished Twilight of the Samurai & 13 Assassins, both are great & very different from each other. I'm glad I stumbled across this channel.

Just rolled credits after 170h and i stil lwant to play more of the game and get better at the combat an all it's secret systems it has to offer. It has a beatiful world, great characters and some amazing boss battles. Can't recommend it enough if you like Samurais, Ninjas and Guns lol

I'm an idiot and can't remember if I already commented here, so sorry if I did. But yeah, dude- this game is f'in awesome. I seriously love it. At times, the graphics are absolutely beautiful- the bamboo forests, the snow, some of the ocean and ship scenes...and the Japanese villages all look great. I personally think that the developers shot the selves in the foot by putting some of the worst looking parts in the beginning...the visuals really crank up after you finish the first map, and that's too bad, because a ton of people are going to turn it off because of that. If you want it to look the best, you need to turn off the stupid camera effects, the "film grain effect", set a steady frame rate, and hit graphics mode in the options under visuals. If you do, it can look almost as good as Ghost, more or less. The "photo" mode is great- it's definitely just as good as Ghost's. If you play it on hard, yeah, it's a Soul's...I guess. If you play it on easy, you can seriously just play it like a hack and slash. Which is fine by me, because I love and miss Ninja Gaiden so much. The gore is f'in magnificent. If you dig ninja gore, well- it's the best you'll have seen since Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360 (not the sigma ps3 watered down gore). The story is- bizarre. It surprised me a few times by killing off what I thought were going to be essential players, and that was pretty cool. There are really strange side quests like finding flowers for an old guy that is in love with a young prostitute, or figuring out what the crabs that some other weirdo are eating. It's got that uniquely quirky Asian vibe that's it's hard to explain, but you either know it and love it or can't stand it, I suppose. The big flaw that I have with it is that it is possible to get all the way through the game with a really bad weapon's proficiency. What that translates to is that you can end the main story with a character around level 60- but have a weapon proficiency of like 25 even on your main weapon if you don't have the right gear or charms active on your playthrough. What that means is that you can complete it, then try the midnight/ridiculously hard mode, and just get owned because your attacks barely work on the high level enemies. You can run around and try to grind your proficiency up, but it takes a really, REALLY long time. So- yeah, no way around it, that sucks. I actually enjoyed it more than Ghost overall. It's a hell of a lot more in depth- from the countless gear and weapon options to the enemy variety- even the scene variety. Fighting the same four types of Mongols and 3 bandits in Ghost got old for me just a few hours in...and the constant running back and forth to check on this person or that in order to proceed. You don't get any of that here, and, we'll, that's great.

Currently playing Rise of the Ronin, a day one pre order purchase, and totally fixated. From the historical backdrop of the Bakamatsu and its many interesting characters , to the varied environments, character customization, representation of authentic martial styles, myriad weapons and engrossing methodical yet fast paced combat, this for me is a 10/10 The "reviewers" giving this a mediocre rating are disingenuous at best and intentionally lazy and dismissive at worst. I really liked Rise of the Ronin. The only part I thought was a bit lack luster was which character you choose. Spending hrs in character creations creating 2 unique character only for the game not to acknowledge which one you chose it was always they or them never he or she. That bit seems like more effort was needed but otherwise the game was exceptional.

I try not to put too much of my trust in reviewers. I pay more attention to KZfaqrs like yourself, Happy Console Gamer, Gameranx, etc. There's a demo of Rise of Ronin right now on PS5 so that's a good thing too. Thanks for your review.

I agree, I'm enjoying Rise of Ronin more than Ghost of Tsushima mainly bc of the combat I think. Obviously GOT had Beautiful graphics (especially for its time) but I got bored after a while & still haven't beaten it. I'm already way more invested in Rise of Ronin

Been trying my hardest to enjoy ronin after this last month sinking 100+ hours into ghost… ronins FPS drops are really the only big complaint I have otherwise it’s super addicting and fun but the frame drops really take you out of immersion alot

I was looking forward to bg3 forever but was bummed out when it just felt like a bland dos2. Actually been having the most fun playing dragons dogma 2 and rise of ronin lately the games everyones been hating on. Sure there is better quality stuff out but nothing that keeps me playing as much.

I’m not gonna skip it. But I’m not gonna pay $70 for it. I’ll wait for it when goes down to $15 or less.

i love the gameplay , its fun , but i cannot with the graphic i just cant, on ps5 4k , it really looks like old Gen, if its on pc probably can mod make it look nicer, i know graphic its not everything but thats is one of the reason make you want to explore and enjoy the view as its an open world , ronin also lack immersion when you ride horse everything break etc, and driven story to motivate you , you will enjoy more fighting other boses etc than bother with the main mission, whats great about tsushima is the immersion the arts the graphic is so amazing and the story is so great that you must seek revenge you hate the invaders you need to do this to save your country etc and because the amazing graphics everywhere you go you will stop for abit to enjoy the scenery and immerse in this digital world, so as much as i enjoy the gameplay on ronin, after a while i uninstall theres no point of me continue it

It looks dated. it's 70GBP in England (which is $90). 70GBP is a weeks worth of food and beer. They released it at the same time as DD2. Which is 60GBP and has much higher production values. I don't doubt the game is decent but developers/publishers need to udnerstand that if your game is not a technical marvel then don't sell it as such. I think 75/100 is fair score for a game which looks 5 years old and is retailing for premium price.

I'm having so much fun with this game. Ignore the hate i have no idea why all the hate is out their. Makes no sense as the game is great. Ghost was a beautiful game but the combat is junk compared to RoTR once you start to get into it.

Even after patch 1.04 came out this game is still buggy as hell to play, I talked to a few friends that have played this game, I have even run into this issue, where as soon as you leave character customization the game will immediately crash. And I've tried five times, I've even uninstalled the game reinstalled it and updated to the new patch. This doesn't make any sense...

This was a game weakened by the same thing that weakens every team ninja game like this. They are using real world history as opposed to writing an actual story. It isn't as bad as Wo Long, but this is also not Sekiro 2. If I reviewed it I would give it a 75-80, as long as I did not include the post game because the post game is not good. Like other Team Ninja games... it exclusively for die hards who like combat that is so punishing it stops being fun as far as I am concerned. As a long time From Software fan going back to literally King's Field 2 (the first game they released in america) I do not consider the "challenge" to be a requirement for a good game much less what makes the games good. I really wanted the post game of Rise to not be for try hards, but it was. As far as Ghosts? No this not a Ghost clone, this is more like a Sekiro light, with some souls weapon options, meets assassins creed.

The games decent but not great. The missions are so boring and mundane, the style of fighting doesn’t make a difference as the enemy’s are so hard you just end up pressing block or parry and hope foe the best. Ghost was so much better in many ways.

The critic points of said reviewers would let people who actually played rise of the ronin believe, that said reviewers actually never played the game. I mean boring combat? Bland Open World design? That are some crazy statements to make who have been done by some critics.
