Stepping into the world of being an NCO, I held a few things to heart, one of them was that “I will never be above bitch work” even as a fresh E5 I’d police the range or training area, take the trash out in the office, sweep and mop the cof, other ncos in other platoons hate that shit, and my joes are like “oh shit SGT such n such remembers where he came from.” I’ve always said that when you do the same dumb shit your guys are doing, they’ll be more willing to suffer beside you

Damn that hierarchy thing struck me. It’s also very important to include that THEiY WILL TEST YOU. They will bully you, make fun of you, make you do shitty things etc. You will have a much better time when you realise that it’s just a test, they don’t bully just to bully, they test you to see if you are a good guy that can get along with. I’m the new guy at a pretty tough factory-job and man they test me. Especially one woman she is just CRUEL, but I fortunately know it’s just a test so I can handle it

When I was in school, before heading to my first ship, I got the best advice--don't talk, just listen. In our case, we got promotions out of school. Our instructor said--you're going to have rank, but the people you outrank have been doing it longer than you, so listen to them. It really worked out great. 30 years later, I can see very junior people at work who were never given that kind of advice, they stand out pretty vividly. Having said that, there is also a difference between realizing you're the new person and you have a certain roll, and putting on a crown of thorns and carrying a cross on your back up and down the hallways.

Rank...... the team will laugh at you. You wouldn’t make it for a month. It will go a long the lines of, if we don’t hear the team sergeant giving out his orders, nothing moves. It will show you how small you are really quick. If you can’t adapt, you will be weeded out quick and your reputation will be quickly known. Then you will probably go cry because I see it all the time and the SGM will put you in check and the Major will go tell you to sit in a corner.

What do you do if you have a alpha personality , it’s not like you challenge someone everytime you feel disrespected , how do you show you don’t want to be fucked with without resorting to violence, my problem is I know there are a lot of og aka older guys who pick on and bully just because they can and sometimes it’s not out of brotherly love , so how do you gain that respect without being a asshole who doesn’t listen

Listen to Bick, the loudest one in the room is often the weakest one in the room. So shut your lips and learn. The strongest often speaks last, because he's the first one speaking after gaining all shared perspectives, weighing it against experience, and speaks with purpose when, and only when, all input is in anx he's Isolated all variables. You've already made it to the tip of the spear, earn it again throughevery task (whether Direct Action or latrine duty in all you do, do it to perfection). A blunt spear is still lethal, but not combat effective compared to a sharp tip. Sharpness is found in repetition of training, effectiveness on target, and unit cohesion. Sense of purpose is found on your left and right. In the cinematic words of Leonidas "Earn these shields boys!" Come back with your shields or on them, but everyone goes home or none do. I wasn't CAG but if you are the last pray for the strength to spit upon your enemy and know that they have my boys coming to collect, and were bringing hell and its legendary fire with us! 2/75 B Co JBLM! Side note, in Regiment we trained hard. The training was generally way harder than real-world missions and it will feel like you are pushed to an unattainable standard. You are not training for the perfect or even days of hard difficulty and being sore and tired, you are preparing for the day everything goes to shit. When you take 3, 4, 5+ rounds, have 2 broken arms, fighting with no cover in a minefield (it's happened during GWOT, Gulf War, Vietnam, and it will again). You train to survive that day of days and retaining the strength to ensure you get your brothers home in tow.

I appreciate the honesty but like I said before I'm pretty much done with trying to get into the miltary. If I do any sort of career searching or training it will probably be going to college but I'm only doing that if I know for sure that I won't be excessively triggered or if I won't go to the hospital. But I guess the answer to all my problems is just to fight some random weakling off the street but I don't really want to waste my time with that especially if I don't have any previous beef with him.

@@FNGACADEMY one other thing Buck, any chance of a personalised signed copy of "Rising Above" for those of us overseas? Perhaps an auction of sorts that can contribute to worthy causes you advocate for the highest bidder...? Just an idea

Hey Buck I was wondering if Army Rangers get promoted to E-6 just like Green Berets do after completion? Or does anyone know? Tried doing some research on it and couldn't find anything about it

Are you 100% serious about the beer? Even on your first day at your ODA? I’m hopefully leaving on the 31st to be an 18x to hopefully be an 18B. And I just wanna do my best in the Q course and when I am stationed. I loved the video BTW and will keep an eye out for more!

Hey buck, big fan of your youtube channel and I have a few questions. I am currently a CPL in the national guard promoting next month. I plan to attend OCS after finishing my degree. My questions are: 1. Before becoming eligible to request SFAS at 1LT, does my officer branch effect my ability to go? I.E. if I get pilot, can I still attempt for 18A once I'm eligible? 2. With the roll out of the be ACFT, will they change the SF fitness test to be similar, or still be similar to the old APFT platform (with the addition of pull ups of course.) Thank you so much, I'd love to hear back from you!
