This was a formative incident in my experience which convinced me to never become any sort of an officer except perhaps a merchant marine officer since I did eventually do 8 years in the merchant marine as an able seaman and was eligible to sit for the mate’s exam at the Coast Guard marine inspection branch. So yes, officers are assholes to a great extent. So I especially enjoyed the depiction in Generation Kill of incompetent and emotionally unstable Marine officers.

On my submarine the big joke when drinking beers at the shitty E-club at Polaris Point in Guam called Andy’s Hut where we bubbleheads would rehash these exchanges and this really salty Nav ET 1st class said that he wished he’d said to this one lieutenant who got out to go to Harvard Law School “ sir, I recommend that you go fuck yourself”.

I just saw this shooting breakdown for the first time, these are the most well trained and brave police officers i can think of off the top of my head... I watch a lot of shooting breakdowns. Rest in peace to the brave little girl who was killed pulling the fire alarm to warn her classmates that there was danger... And everyone else, except for the shooter.

from a interview i watched with one of the seals (the one officially credited with killing him) and he was saying how when they practiced it stateside with a 1:1 model that the wall was a bit higher on one side and apparently had caused unforeseen updraft. if they would have tried to throttle up it would of flipped the the chopper likely to kill most if not all on board. they had 4 of the best piolets in the entire us army/spec ops.
