Thank you Petr!!! You are a great mechanic and you youtube channel is awesome! The new rotors and breaks work great...and yes, rusty from beach driving and launching my boat. Totally worth it in my opinion. You gotta pay to play, right??

When I ordered my 08 5.7 SR5, I selected the safer steel wheels. Hit something like a curb and steel will deform a little where cast alloy wheels will crack and maybe fail.
@LAactor
@LAactor Жыл бұрын
Deform as little or as much as it was designed to. But yes the alloy will crack. What does that mean? For example a forward of mostly forward hit will be structurally designed for it. But however I had a customer go up an onramp slick from a major oil leak from the vehicle above. New to them vehicle, did not yet bring for inspection, brakes and struts were bad so they couldn't stop. They slid into the curb sideways and the left side two steel wheels bent enough to be visible. Other parts bent also with the strut bending the most. And the knuckle. So in this case not a little. But structurally able to be rolled to safety and maintaining control.

These rims remind me of the third gen RAV base model rims. Toyo took from different platforms (car and also truck) and built it up to make their compact SUV.

I typically prefer oem, but three years ago I got some rotors on eBay with ceramic pads for less than a $100 for my highlander and they are still going strong.

Pete, you know, I had 12-14 year old cars around too. Many of them if original look like this, in dryer, no snow climates. Maybe the owner changed the fronts at one point because they do 80% of the work and just now getting to the backs. I know I've had units that were original for this long back there before.

Petr, This is the "less powerful" 4.6 V8 that delivers only 300 hp with Regular gas in a Tundra or Sequoia. In a Lexus GX with the 4.6 Premium is required to get 301 hp 😉

Hey when choosing brake pads and rotors would you suggest oem? With Toyota parts is it worth the extra money for a quality part? Or do you use aftermarket brands?

Nowadays, it’s not worth turning rotors. They’re so much thinner. New pads, with new rotors. I personally use Centric Premium (black hats). I’ve found in my experience that they’re just as good as OEM.
@jptrainor
@jptrainor Жыл бұрын
I had a bad experience with Centric Premium on my Honda Odyssey. They would pulse when warmed up. They advertise them as being made with "symmetric vane casting" (which improves heat dissipation) but mine were not symmetric cast. I called them and they said "oh yeah... not every rotor model uses symmetric casting". So I don't know why they advertised them as such. I switched to Bosch QuietCast. No more problems. Those do use symmetric casting although Bosch don't promote that much, they simple promote it as a premium rotor. I also have a pair of Centric Ctek (economic) rotors on a Civic and they're fine.

I agree. I always replace rotors with pads. In the rust belt, there's no way a rotor is going to last the life of two sets of pads without warping and failing.

To this day I haven’t had the same issue as you yet, but I wouldn’t rule it out either. I’ve used them on basic commuters, larger SUV’s, and trucks. Currently, I have them on a 12 Outback 3.6 and 2007 Sequoia. I used them on recently departed 18 Jeep SRT and they lasted a little bit longer than the factory 2 piece Brembo rotor. I’ll give them a go on my 21 Tundra and 20 Gx460 when replacement time comes. I did look into the Bosch you suggested and they appear to be solid rotors. The Centric Premium for the Outback fronts were sent back on my first order. They didn’t line up, even though part # was correct.

2017 with 80,000 miles = 16,000 miles a year is considered a low-mile truck? What does that make my 2006 Tacoma with less than 74,000 miles... inquiring minds want to know?

There are super cheap economy after market rotors on the market that won't measure up to oem quality. Premium after market rotors are more likely than not going to be fine.
