Thanks so much for posting this, Peter. It is new to me. When Torch Song came out as the movie in 1988 there was only one theater in Chattanooga, TN that was brave enough to show it. Well as you would know the Religious Fanatic's had picket signs in front of the cinema and would harass anyone that would come to see it. People that I knew in the Gay community were very scared to go see the movie for the fear that their employer or family would find out. I would offer to bring them in my car and I would harass the "Christians" while my friends would sneak into the theater to buy their tickets. Word got out that I was doing this and people actually offered to pay me to bring them so they would be able to see this wonderful movie! I bet I saw this movie over 25 times during it's run at this theater. I have such fond memories of this. It is amazing to see how far we have come since the 1980s.

What I find stunning is not the conversation, but the early '80s clothes and hair. I remember aspiring to that look and now we all use walkers. 🤣

It's funny to hear Brian Kerwin say that about soap operas only to see him appear on One Life To Live 24 years later.

Interesting that Brian Kerwin transferred to the film, I wonder why the rest of the cast didn't

They did. Harvey Fierstein and Matthew Broderick were in the movie. EstelleGetty was replaced by Anne Bancroft playing the mom for the movie.

@peteraschaffenburg1 Estelle was replaced because she was doing Golden Girls at the time of filming

Donald Corren was amazing in the part, and the movie doesn't do half justice to the play.

That´s your legitimate opinion. I think, as the one who wrote the whole thing, Harvey Fierstein knew what he was doing with the movie. I might have preferred Estelle Getty as the mom though.
