Yet another great trip, thank you. One huge advantage of your videos is the 'clear ahead' view. By chance, when making my first visit, in early Spring 1977, I realised that, with all the lineside trees and cuttings, I would rarely see the views in late Spring through to late Autumn. My later visits were in Winter, because of my Summer holidays here.

I really miss working these 185s! Particularly on this route, Hull was my favourite!

Great videos Don Although I grew up during the steam era I thourely enjoy your vids but what strikes me about them is how badly we in the stoke-on-Trent area our rail service especially on the Crewe to Derby line many stations were closed under beaching my nearest station was Meir and it was a sad day when we lost it the ancient stock is so slow the journey from Crewe to Derby takes over 2hours. What I take in from your vids as you travel through many northern cities is how vibrant and modern they are and your added information on the past history of your various journeys is fascinating you must enjoy your job, thank you.

First time was numerous journeys from Liverpool Street to Billericay back in 2001 and Paddington to Maidenhead in 2014. In reference to longest straight track in UK, here in Australia we have the longest straight track in the world across the Nullabor Plain - 478Km (297 Miles). Keep up the good work. Regards, ... And another fantastic journey Don. I never get bored with these, whether I'm familiar with the route or not. As far as I remember, I was only in Hull twice *but* I arrived the first time behind a Deltic on a service train ~ none of that railtour nonsense, and the second time, on the paddle steamer *Lincoln Castle* from New Holland, just weeks before she was retired. If my memories of that Deltic run haven't been blurred over time, there were blue/grey Pullmans on that train. It's just dawning on me ~ these trips were over 40 years ago.😢 Hull can't have made a huge impression on me ~ I've not been back.😬 Thanks for the memories Don.😬 Cheers for now, Dougie.

Hi Don. Thank you for this video. The signal box at Broomfleet was the first one I worked after signalling school (apologize if I ever held you up there!). I worked it for a year before heading down south. It was nice to see the box again still working. I will check out the video of the resignaled line in the near future. Thanks again.

From Hull myself and get back there occasionally. Always saddened by the Beeching Axe taking out the Hornsea and Withernsea lines. They had to go I suppose, not being profitable. That's the trouble with nostalgia. Those lines were taken for granted until they disappeared....

Should have read all of your comments to see that the marshaling yard was Gascoine Wood , however I believe the long stretch is only 18 miles long, but I seem to recall its only on the Hull inbound side as there is a kink at Gilberdyke.

No2 in the winter after you have gone under the Humber Bridge and you are travelling along next to the Humber Estuary does the sea come over the tracks? What a fantastic alignment, mostly arrow straight except through Selby where it doesn't matter, so why are speeds so relatively low as far as Leeds?

Great video, Don - In complete contrast to the bends and curves on this side of the Pennines - Out of interest, I note the speed limits out of Hull increased to 90mph quite quickly, but then decreased on the straightest part of the track back down to 75mph. I am assuming this is the limitations of the signal braking distance rather than curvature of the track! (as there aren't any!) - Do you think when the re-signalling is complete, they are likely to revise track speeds upwards to decrease journey times? And the fact you are driving a 185 that has 100mph capability :)

This must be the ultimate driving job, no traffic jams, no noobs trying to cut you up or brake check or turn without signalling. Anyway that is a lovely route and beautifully captured by you. Is it possible though to caption the station names as you pass through? so that we can enjoy the route even more.

I don' know about long tunnels and no bright headlights to see if you have a clear line. Here in Australia we have to use high beam day and night everywhere.

SO a thought crossed my mind when watching this from the beginning as you passed Hull Royal Infirmary, do you have local agreements with hospitals and such like that trains won't use a horn unless in an emergency when next to a hospital site?

At around 00:26:17 there was a smallish hawk/falcon that tried to land between the tracks in front of the loco. SMACK!!! Sorry to see that. :-( Just past the 75 MPH sign.

I went from hull to picadillo before

station stops at approx. 1.03 , 1.14 , 1 19 , 1 31 and 4 pass throughs from 1.40 onwards. ? ( I got Stalybridge ).

I notice that you are using in-cab signals for semaphore signals, I thought they only work for color light signals.

very enjoyable video, but one thing amazes me, not one freight train on the whole journey, when you consider the M60 and M62 are choked up with HGVs sometimes outnumbering the cars, why is not more freight carried on the railways? I think this country has a lot to learn from european railways where every other train you see is freight.
