Just some context, when he said "This is not about me" on to Come To Life the line before was along the lines of "All northy wanted was some nikes, this is not about me" North is his daughter and he is saying for a gift she wanted a pair of nikes, a brand that kanye is a direct competitor too and has a poor working history with. He is saying for his family hes willing to put aside his dislike for his competitor and even his ego (why ask for nikes when your dad can get you any pair of expensive yeezys you want) just to make them happy. This album is so meandering that I think it turned some people off who wanted one cohesive tight album. But much like the Bible that Kanye drew inspiration from I see it more as a collection of allegories and tales for you to come back to when you're in need or mood for one particular tale.

@@crusherbot1 not at all what I meant but go on. My point was that maybe Kanye meant it to be more an anthology of stories than a cohesive tale, and the most famous anthology and the one most closely associated with Kanye's subject matter is the Bible. I never compared the two in quality in any way but go on I guess.
@thereviewracoon
@thereviewracoon 2 жыл бұрын
That’s actually a great way to explain the album, people don’t need to compare it to the Bible to see the relation it has to that style, a more open body of work, feels like how albums used to be!
@meesterpitta
@meesterpitta 2 жыл бұрын
I don't see this at all as a good development. Drake has been doing this for a while and other artists have been following suit with 20+, sometimes even 40-track albums. It takes away from the concept and cohesion of an album and turns it into a curated playlist where everyone can take whatever they like. However by doing this they undermine the story an album can tell if made properly with much care. All it does is take the emotion and personality out of an album for me personally.

the thing with reactors is that everyone wanna be cool and get the most audience, that way they need to act cool, so most of them would put a weird face and look funny at the camera and be like 'bruuuh, whaaaat...' for some of the songs in the album the album is basically depicting an ascension process (that's why it starts with Jail and that's why the drums are at the end, because they keep singing 'Guess who's going to Jail tonight' during the entire song, and then when they arrive you can hear the tingling and chainy sounds of a jail. God Breathed is the night during jail (that's why the weird screams), Off the Grid is the escape, and so on...

Not sure if any of the comments have explained the part 2's yet but throughout the 3 listening parties different versions of the songs were played (with new feature verses etc.) and obviously they were all received different by the fans and so rather than disappointing people, he released them all (though I personally feel that the part 2's added nothing to the album.) I was wondering if you were ever planning on doing an update video on your Kanye journey? favourite album so far? favourite songs? things you've picked up through relistens/whilst editing the videos? yeah that's how i see it. it's not an album where he gets super emotional on "every" track and tells stories about his mom, as we already seen dedications throughoit his career, but it carries an energy that can go between sad or happy where he moreso mentions his mom's name as a reminder (even on Junya or Keep my Spirit Alive), donda is still prevalent as a force and he carries her legacy forward

Not sure you if you heard, but Kanye posted on instagram the day Donda released, claiming UMG released the album without his permission, which would explain why some tracks feel so “unfinished”. If Kanye’s being truthful about that, we can always hope he’ll make some changes to the already released album as he did to The Life Of Pablo. With the right changes made to the album, Donda has potential to become a top 5 Kanye album in my opinion.

I also think the release of this album was a mess and there is likely a lot of stuff Kanye might fix and we could see an updated/cleaned up/cut out which could lead to a reworked, more polished version of Donda that isn't so bloated and scrappy in parts, like we seen him do with the Life of Pablo. But who knows.

Went to the timestamps to see where he was starting at in this video cause I couldn’t remember from the last video and I instantly see “Watch the whole KZfaq video” (which I do always) and I said out loud “The King has spoken” And I’m not surprised we completely agree on the final verdict: some songs maybe could’ve been taken off and shortened up, some parts tweaked or have added instrumentation, but the high points of the album are incredible. Never thought about how the listing is similar to rereleases of albums from decades ago, if it were condensed to 14 songs, plus adding Jail Pt. 1 and 2 together and shortening it to fit five minutes or so run time, nobody would question whether or not it’s an amazing album which I believe it is. Mercurial is one of few people on this platform I feel that I can trust that their opinion is not biased because it’s all about the music and nothing else. Fucking love this guy

Thank you for giving us these reactions. It probably takes a lot of time to edit these videos so thank you for allowing us to enjoy the music with you. I’m also wondering if you are ever gonna listen to The Weeknd’s discography :)
