Teri Garr is SO charming, intelligent, fun, wonderfully goofy, unpredictable, has no agenda & it seems nothing impresses her! She defines the term ditzy blonde! It's no wonder she made countless appearances on Letterman! Teri's always been a treasure & exceptionally gifted comic performer. And a very good chance you've seen one of her films as well!

You hit the nail on the head about the tattoo issue. When I see women in video clips from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, they seem so much more beautiful than young women today. I think that tattoos are a major reason.

The night after the first interview with Terri was the very first time I saw an episode of Late Night w David Letterman. The Michael J Fox show. I was 7 years old. I was sick and was not going to school the next day. Up late with my parents watching Carson whom I had never seen. I loved Back to the Future and it was announced he was on on Late Night next. I begged the parents to let me watch it. Then and there, I became fixated with this odd show hosted by this funny, witty and odd man. For the next 28 years I barely missed a show. When I did I watched it the next day because I had taped it. I begged my family to get me my own tv set so I could watch it in my room. I adopted an old small abandoned set from my grandfather. The rest is history. Attended the show many times. Last time on my birthday. January 2015. Dave's last year. On Dave's last show, I left work early, took the subway down to the Ed Sullivan Theater and hung out outside for hours. I knew a huge part of my life was ending.

Watching through these in order, I have to say that the banter and chemistry between Teri and Dave just got better and better as time went on, and Teri got more and more irresistibly charming and beautiful. Thanks for all your hard work, Don! At 23:43, when Teri refers to what Dave had written on the other side of that paper--and he quickly changes the subject--could this be the famous "I hate myself" note that he supposedly scrawled during a commercial break (alluded to in "The Late Shift" movie, which changed the guest to Sandra Bernhard, as well as in Jason Zinoman's book)? It would make sense given the context.
@dongiller
@dongiller 4 жыл бұрын
A lot to unpack here. First, thanks! Second, possibly (the timing of the passed note). But, and I just checked, Jason doesn't refer to either the note or the purported message. And third -- and here I'm going by memory but will have to search for the source -- the note never said that, or it was taken completely out of context. I think it was first reported in a Spy magazine article, but the accuracy (or context) got garbled. From there it took on mythical status, but that may be what it was from the start -- a myth. Again, I'll have to find out where I learned about that, so don't take my word at face value. But from what I recall, what he actually wrote wasn't what's since spread as fact.
@dongiller
@dongiller 4 жыл бұрын
Also, I just checked -- this was the show where Viewer Mail went off the rails due to the first week of the NABET strike, uploaded here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kMl6gbyb2ZidaWg.html You'll see that Dave was pretty frustrated with all of the screwups, and that may have played a part in the note.
