In this project video, I show you how to make one of our new sideway leather knife sheaths. This style of sheath is for a case trapper pocket knife and allows the knife to sit horizontal instead of vertical.
We offer a DIGITAL pattern pack for this project with 10 different floral tooling patterns. Use this link to purchase your copy: shop.dgsaddlery.com/products/...
We also offer a material pack for these as well. This is Herman Oak Leather die cut to make this sheath.

It is called a Scout Carry sheath. and was carried that way in the small of the back, so it wouldn't get caught in brush or rub on the saddle while riding. Just my two cents.

great video and beautiful knife sheath. i love how easy and effortless you make the tooling look. and then to include the mistake and not edit it out was awesome. shows that even the best make mistakes on occasion. another great video. thank you.

A idea: when a knife is in the sheath, a piece of leather over it with a snap to secure the knife that way too? So it can't slip out of the sheath? But, boy.. Sir,you sure have a talent with leather! 👌

I really like your videos because they help me with all the doubts I have and they are very good videos to learn or improve. I would like to know more about the names of each tool because I don't know what they are called, I only know that some of them are a Barry King brand and Weaver but I don't know what they are called🤜🤛👌👌👌

Hey. Do you offer a tool list with your patterns as they look really small. Have not done that small of work before. Does the digital have pictures of the actual tooled pieces done so we can see how you did it. Newbie and it’s great to see your pattern in real life.

It could also be cut wirh a flap on the back, to bend around the front and secure with a snap/stud to keep a smaller knife in safe...

Do the leathermans or pocket knives fall out of the sheaths when working, sliding under trucks or machinery. Worried without the clip locks over the top, they will loosen and fall out.

If, after the leather has stretched out and there is a chance that your knife might slip out. Can you soak the sheath and let the empty sheath then dry, would there be a chance you're knife might hold better?

Don, I wonder if a slightly wider belt loop would provide a continuous curling force, which would mitigate against a knife falling out for more of the sheath’s life? It’s always a trade-off against ease of use, but I’d prefer not to lose my knife. There is always of course a snap closure option too.

I would think if your knife comes loose just wet the sheath down keep the knife in the sheath untill dry. Then reoil it.

For you guys who want a cut above belt sheath & do not intend to make something , may I recommend taking a look at " D.M. Bullard " of Azle , TX. leather worker extraordinaire & his horizontal vertical pocketknife sheath's looks like a mini 6 shooter holster !!! He also does straight or angled pancake belt sheaths which are my favorites !!! & naturally tooled patterns ade to the cost !!!
