A craftsman is his own worst critic. That strive for perfection is the fuel that brings a man to his upper level of performance. Those really turned out great. I find Japanese ppl. are really into their craft and perfecting. I’m glad to see that attitude as yours, happening more in the US. Meaning I’ve always looked to the Japanese for fashion and how serious they are. When I’m that way and part Japanese , ppl. think I’m fussy and annoying. I watch jakaneswbtv and everything they do, they try to do with a very high standard. Like Ramen master will keep perfecting after 20-30 years and it’s still not right.

Awesome restoration. Those shoes are definitely from a person who owned a manual car with a very hard clutch......probably a sports car, old porshes etc are known for them. Left shoe has a worn out patch in the middle from the clutch pedal and the right has a accelerate/brake pedal marking.

When I have a visually dry pair, I'm always afraid of getting a crack like that. So I bought a cheap leather lotion and add it after a quick wash with saddle soap. I let it dry about half way then apply the lotion. I let that sink in overnight, buff it, then let it sit for another day or so. Then strip it and begin the regular dye process that I learned from watch you. My theory is that it gets some moisture under the surface. Enough so the it doesn't crack when you work on it. Hope that helps.

So basically if there isn't a hole on the uppers, a leather shoe can be brought back to life, or actually near perfection. Because seeing the state of them prior to this job, it looks like they were beyond repair. Amazing job.

I think your part of the job went swimmingly! I did notice that the cobbler did not hit the original holes on the welt. Was there a reason for that? I know they typically try to hit those holes when they can, so I assume there is probably a reason. I've seen so many of these types of videos, my eyes scan for the details!! lol. Thanks for sharing another great transformation, Preston!!

Yes, sometimes buying a new pair of shoes is much more cost-effective. This video was just a showcase what can be done for sentimental pairs and such
@djtaylorutube
@djtaylorutube 2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the cost of the shoe vs replacement. If the original is some glued together fast fashion garbage construction, then keep buying in at the $30 to $100 price range. If the shoe is several hundred or thousand $ to begin with, the cost of about $100 for a resole is clearly the better option. Yes the uppers are a bit knocked about on these but nothing that can't be saved.

Awesome video and restoration! When it comes to airbrushing I recommend you do away with the compressor and start using a flat-bottomed, aluminum scuba tank filled with CO2, which is dry, so no water trap is required. You just install a pressure regulator and gauge, that can be purchased from companies that sell beer making equipment and your all set. There are several sites on the internet that can walk you through the setup. When you need to fill the tank, just take it to a local fire extinguisher refill business and they’ll hook you right up. I also love the fact that it’s quiet and never wears out. You just have to periodically get the fire extinguisher firm to retest the tank. Cheers!

Great job on the two-tone. Back in the Marines I learned to use a lighter and spit with a T-shirt to shine shoes and boots, always had the best shoes during inspection. First thing we learned was to break down the polish and dye the shoe before building up the polish again. Lighter worked on hat bills too, trick is to get close enough to melt the polish but not too close and build up.
