For anyone looking at a MIDI controller for the first time, always remember it's a controller. It doesn't make sounds on its own. The sounds come from, in this case, plugins that I've installed in my DAW. There are several (hundreds... probably thousands) of free instrument plugin downloads that you can add to your DAW. The text description of the video has links to the three that I used for the video. But I have several others that I regularly use. Which midi breakout adapter does it take? Type A or Type B?

I'm torn between this and the Arturia minilab 3. They have a lot of similar features. The Donner looks more portable but the Minilab looks to have tighter DAW integration. Tough decision.

Analysis Paralysis... All these options these days make it hard to decide on which device (whatever it is) that would be 'best' for our own applications.

@@AlanHamiltonAudio so true. I'm just trying to get back into music production after taking about a 20 year break. LOL. I want to start DAWless because too many distractions in PC/laptop. That's what I like about both of the midi controllers mentioned because they can be used with external gear as well as DAWs. I'm waiting on my Kickstarter sampler the SmpTrek and plan to build around it depending on how much I get into that device or not. I don't want to buy a bunch of gear just so it can look cool on the shelf.
