This was really excellent, Mr. Donnie. I am fascinated by the lives of the early settlers of our country. We think we’ve got it rough, but we wouldn’t last a day if we had to live as our ancestors did.

Donnie, I look at my front door and I see the clinch River. I always think about how Daniel Boone floated down this river bringing supplies. he had to have stopped here at my house, because behind my house, 1 mile is the remains of the original Carter’s fort. I know this for a fact, because I have been in what remains of the old fort. My wife’s people have lived on this land since the 1820s. It’s through the stories that her old ones pass down to me.

Henry Sharp is my 5th great grandfather. The big brick house in the curve before turning down to Big Valley is another Sharp house, my direct line. The controversial egg farm from Mexico is building on that property. I was raised and spent my teenage years in Big Ridge State Park. The history of the people that settled the area is very interesting. So many people are coming to the Museum to find their people and go to the cemeteries.

As usual an excellent video Donnie. The way things changed back then was sad, but for progress. My mom's family is in Floyd County Kentucky. There is Cherokee (my grandpa) and Irish (grandma) I am 63 and I have lived in comanche County Texas all my life. First, the Californians flooded in and bought every piece of land that they could bulldoze all the natural habitat of, put a huge house on and 10 ft fences all the way around. Now we are being ran over by over 2 million Mexicans and every other country that can get across Bidens, senile, come on in BS. As it stands as of yesterday there is 100,000 Cubans trying to overwhelm the border security and walk in. I pray for our country but NEVER would I have dreamed we would be where we were right now. God help us and this country, literally

I took care of a Sharpe in her later stages of life. She filled me with so many wonderful stories of her golden years. My favorite one is: She said she about five or six years old, and was hunting for wild berries on the edge of the woods. Her mama warned her never to go into the woods...alone. Well...a lone flutterby lured her just a few yards in and around a stump. She looked back to see the woods had completely closed in on her! She headed straight back to where she'd walked in and walked and walked...but never reached the point she entered. She got so frightened, the sun was going down, her eyes were too blurry to see her way through. Terrified, she squatted right where she stood and just let loose. She started bawling like a bob cat and shaking like a leaf, but not-a-one seemed to hear her. She cried for so long, her voice had gone! She said after a while, her tears turned to crystals on her little face and her hair had bits of ice clinging. Then, suddenly a Mama Doe with two babies appeared. The Mama stood there for a while studying her Then...Mama deer walked right up to where she was sitting and licked her eyes and nose clean. Somehow that calmed her down right away, and enough that she stood up and started following them. They led her directly to where she came into the thick. She looked down and there was her basket.... just overflowing with berries! She strongly believed the Lord sent his angels (and perhaps) the "children of the woods" to watch over her and guide her safely back home.

This was so interesting, thank you for the peek of the history of Sharps Station. ~What unsettles my heart is, in a way, with the Government giving the soldiers huge parcels of land, well, that really wasn't fair to the Native Indians. Indirectly, or directly, they took what they wanted because "They could". I can't blame the Native Indians at all for being angry about this. So many Native Tribes were forced to leave their land, and live on a Government run "Reservation". [We] sort came, claimed it, and told them too bad. Your right, there is much dark history.

A friend of mine loves checking out old 2-tracks - just to see what's back there. We were going through old logging camps (not much left other than lilac bushes and fruit trees. As we were heading back, we found an old cemetery that had headstones dating back to the mid-1800s. We found a fenced (not much of it is left) area that had 10 little headstones along with mom and dad. Seems there was some type of illness that seemed to prey on children. The oldest was around 14 and the youngest was about 1. It is so true that we need to keep telling the stories of the past - without the past, we wouldn't be here now. Thank you, Mr. Laws for all of your research and videos that shine a light on the past that we cannot see physically, but is a part of us all. 💖💖💖

Thank you Donnie for all your videos. I love the rich history you share with us. I can relate to a lot of what you share. My ancestors on my father's side come from South Eastern Mississippi. My father still lives there. There are many of the old Yellow Pine barns and houses that still exist there, including my grandparents barn. I love the area. Thank you so much for all the hard work you do for all of us. The Lord bless you and your family.

Wow Donnie, those grave stones are in remarkably good shape! I'll wager the families that populated this area honored them and kept them up well. That is so great to see! I love hearing about this region of Tennessee that you know so well. That area is now on my bucket list of places to visit! I hope I get up there someday before I can't hike any more!
