Yes, Donny'voice take you on an emotional journey like no other vocalist. Yet, I think its important to remember he was also an incredible musician, a musical prodigy who made his piano sing just as soulfully as his voice.

Man this brother was the best. I'm glad I grew up during this period, music of the 70's was just beautiful. Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway, Al green, the Carpenters, Stevie wonder, joe cocker, the Eagles, Jackson Five, the moments, Roberta flack, Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross I could go on and on. This is what was played on Am radio.

What a blessing to have had the opportunity to slather west coast radio listeners with his music in the '70s. Soulful music like this lives on, in our memories and hopefully on radio that plays real music! It's why I got in the business 55 years ago.

I had this song on a 45” disc (not this version live though). If my memory serves me correctly, “Giving Up” was on the flip side. I love both tunes. I love every entire song that I heard released by Donny. His musicians were always incredibly soulful as well. Donny was played great bass as well. I wanted to actually experience one of his “LIVE” performances. I was in Illeshiem Germany when a friend named Albert Mattei gave me the tragic news about Donny’s death. I actually had tears. I was twenty yo at the time. I was so heart-broken. Then came Lalah. And when heard her the first time and even afterwards, it raised the hairs on my body. Love this song just as much today. All versions of it. Peace. Thanks for posting.
