Hurricane Beryl smashed into jamaica yesturday and is now heading towards Mexico. Avoid travel warnings have now been issued to those places hit by the storm . Princess Cruise Lines have closed 3 of it's Alaskan Lodges to new guests because of a threat from a wildfire in the Denali Park.

You are absolutely right, Don, about insurance companies (not just travel insurance) doing everything possible to avoid paying out. I’ve had so much trouble that i just will not travel any more unless it’s necessary. Also, with all the government advisories and things like wildfires, i feel like i just don’t need the stress.

How sad for those travelers expecting a stay at the Princess lodges. We stayed at 2 of them. Nothing like them. But yes, safety first!

Hope all goes well in Alaska. My wife and I enjoyed the train tour as well as the Lodges along with the inside passage tour, all was wonderful. Would hate to see the Lodges damaged or anyone harmed.

I’m sure there are quite a few Alaskan cruisers that are disappointed about Denali. I hate to hear that there’s a fire in that beautiful part of the world. Hope they get it under control, and completely out ,very soon.

To everyone……travel insurance is an absolute necessity, BUT, you need to be very mindful of WHAT instances it covers. Trip interruption, trip cancellation, medical issues, medical evacuation, luggage loss, etc. Do not assume anything….read the policy, ask questions, see what documentation is required for a claim. Many travelers think a simple phone call will set a claim in motion. Not so. If possible, when purchasing a policy, try to get one with cancellation “for any reason”. Also…. E aware that some policies issued by cruise lines provide for future cruise credit, which is fine, but they will not allow you to take out a new policy on the fcc….meaning should you have to cancel that trip, the fcc is forfeited. Some companies will allow a new policy to protect you in that situation.

We had a power outage years ago at a Princess lodge. It was just as bright at 10 pm as during the day so we weren’t inconvenienced. The people that were going to supper were the people that had a problem. It happened around 7 pm.

Oh Boy, our land tour starts on August 25th with Princess land tour so we pray they get Riley fire under control and hope no one got injured? We are going to all three national parks then on Royal Princess ship. We have full insurance but hope it doesn't come to that??? Hope you are well Don! Happy belated Canada Day! Don, we got to Denali on Sunday. We were evacuated on Monday night. They bussed us to Fairbanks to fly us to Seattle. We were on Holland. There was a lot of confusion and misinformation.

I always let my credit card company know when I am traveling. You can do it by a phone call or on their app. We’ve had problems in the past because it looks like fraud when you use it in several different areas in a day.
