Always pull the dipstick while the engine is running and check for Blow-by by putting your finger over the dipstick tube. There should not be pressure or smoke coming out of the tube. Especially important on higher hour machines.

Also if you go look at a piece if equipment look for signs of old grease, someone could of just greased to sell it. And ask if you can grease the fittings yourself, how well they take grease will also tell how often they got grease

One big item to pay attention too are re-painted and rebadged machines.if the machine looks like new,pay attention and dig deep,it's usually been so well used they had to paint it in order to even make a sale.NOT ALWAYS,but quite often.I strive for,original used paint,cold starts,stored inside,and all maint documents,and the number of owners a machine has had.Good vid,thanks.

Hello Josh, thank you for this video! On min. 7:44 "by shims" you mean the cylinder pins that goes through the end of each cylinder? They with time in fact get wore out. The short hose you touch by the right of your skid steer, notice it has some bumps or out of shape I think by pressure of the hydraulic pump or past abuse or low quality section of the hose, maybe you want to review it, buy it and have any hose looking like bumpy replaced before they go off while you less expect it. Please let me know if am wrong.

Hour to HP is relatively moot. I’ve seen low hour higher HP machines worked like a rented mule. Conversely I have seen higher hour lower HP machines that have had excellent maintenance and the machines ran incredibly. I think it all boils down to maintenance, like mileage on a car. I’d rather have a well maintained high mileage car than a fleet vehicle or rental that was beat every minute it ran. All in all good video.

thank you so much for the tips! I’m looking to buy my first smaller, skid loader, just something big enough to pick up round bales from 1100 to 1700 pounds. I know the stated capacity is not accurate for this type of work. Wondered if anybody came up with a formula to figure out what you need for capacity when you were picking up a 6 foot long bale?

I don't question your answere, but the original question: Why a skid-steere? Why not a Caterpillar, Volvo, Kubota or other wheel loader? My PERSONAL opinion is that they are more versatile if there isn't a big question about room. Skid-steers are great doing utility work around houses and on building sites where you have to turn around on a dime. On the alternator-belt: if it's worn it will touch the bottom of the pulley and tightening will not help. If the the top side of the belt goes into the pulley it's good for a change...

I bought a wheeled machine because my road is two miles long(travel speed is faster)and I live in Montana so wo do not have very many mud days. I do have an extra set of mounted tires with cleated chains on them. With my dewalt impact I can change tires in less then ten minutes and it does much better than a track machine on ice which I do get alot of. My machine is a 2015 L230 New holland, thanks for the video!!!

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I have operated the track machines and they are great. I think top speed in your machine is about 8 mph?? My machine is 12 mph it does make a difference if you have to travel alot. I had a track machine here on my ranch for about six months (T 250 Bobcat) when I first bought the place and it was great until it got snow packed and icey then it turned into a slip and slide event and I was running ice tracks. The first time I plowed snow with my machine on ice with the chains on it was an animal. I have steep grades on my ranch road and I can plow up hill with this setup (9' snow dogg plow with wings 11'). The tracked skidsteer could not plow uphill on my road. Like I said we do not get as wet here in Montana as you do but we do have hard winter. Thanks again!!! P.S. I looked up the specs on the gehl rt210 and the new holland l230 is a full 4 mph faster!!!!
@waynejohnson9855
@waynejohnson9855 Жыл бұрын
L230 that’s a beast and I agree on snow I did a demo with a case track machine and I had a hill that I had packed down from driving my pickup on it and with a full bucket of wood I couldn’t make the hill. So tires and chains work better for me. You can get more aggressive tracks or I know guys that stud their tracks like a snowmobile.

Long but worth reading: recovering from 2 surgeries so can't make long trips. Need a backhoe so working via net. So,found a 2005 JD 310G 4wd open station at a dealer 170 miles away.30+ pics and 2 videos. Hour meter showed under 500 hours."Owned since new by a gravedigger". $38,500.00 and bought it. From dealer straight to JD Construction equipment dealer service shop. ECM shows true hours at 2972. Not pissy. Left rear tire has a torn bead. Still not pissy.Nickle and dime service and repairs,complete set of JD manuals,complete set of spare filters,etc should be under $5000.00. $43,500.00 for a backhoe that will have parts available for at least another 15 years,low hours at 2972,will last me probably longer than I'll live. Short video on my channel when it arrived at the JD shop. Shop foreman says it's a goodun.

1-Buy what you can afford, what you hope it'll pays or produce back (so hopefully you have jobs demanding you to have one heavy equipment), and always, from a person you feel he's not pushing you to buy it like in a hurry or desperate! Always buy from someone although you don't know, that transmits a sense of him being a friend. 2-If possible check the equipment all you can and try to operate it. The most important things in anything, is that it'll functions and it's heaviest parts aren't too wore out like the sprokets (the denture wheel that is undercarriage moving the tracks. Cylinder leaks are the easiest fixes. Hydraulic hoses can be more complicated because you'll need to track them or run them through parts you'll have to take off of the machine but the most expensive parts, engine and transmission, if the machine has low hours, and it's visual parts like the sprokets don't used too used or wore out, and you can make it move, the owner is not pushing it, is a great deal. Try to get it as cheap as possible but this machines aren't cheap because they can make money so, you get ready to spend as much as you feel comfortable, and keep that same amount or some thousands untouched, to repair it one day. If you do, the jobs you do will help you recover and hopefully make more money than you spent. And one more, search for mechanics in your area and go with the ones you feel they don't see your millionaire's face, those who don't see you as rich will protect your hard earned money and won't rip you off when charging you!
