Hydrodipping is supposed to be easy right? people do it to shoes, guitars and airsoft guns all the time, but can you dip car parts? Zach Jobe is joined by Justin Freeman to try out two different methods of Hydrodipping, and along the way they learn a bunch of ways how not to hydrodip, and maybe one way to hydrodip? see what parts work, what parts dont, and how to dip like a pro.

I like how in the end, no matter how good or how bad the part looks, you install it anyways because that's the whole point of DIY: To take pride and feel good about the effort you just put into something.
@Tibyon

Definitely one thing to consider for diy is staying away from rigid patterns. With the camo, a tiny air bubble wouldn't be noticable, but with the carbon fiber pattern, you see every inconsistency

@@Gazmus It all depends. It's much easier to get a uniform paintjob on something when it's just a flat layer of paint, assuming you do it correctly.
@goku4561
@goku4561 2 жыл бұрын
@@Gazmus it depends on what parts you're trying to change the colour of really. Spraying something like a steering wheel wouldn't necessarily be as ideal as dipping because the prepping process for painting involves creating a coarse/textured surface for the paint to adhere to which is more difficult to achieve on something like a leather or faux leather surface. So ultimately it really would depend on what parts you're trying to do

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I've done a decent amount of swirl painting, which is similar to the spray paint method shown here. I've found that paints made specifically for swirl painting work much better than anything else (especially spray paint). There's brands like Magic Marble that I've used and had great success with, since I enjoy the randomness and one-of-a-kind nature of swirl painting over the pre-determined pattern of hydro dipping.

I did the rattle can dip on my Jeep. The center console wound up with a really neat nebula pattern.

This was a super helpful video actually. Not only was it entertaining but it also gave me insight into tackling the process. I think I would like to do it if I had some more pro advise and watched some more KZfaq videos on it. Nothing beats a pro job, but hey, if you go it, like it and become a pro yourself, you have a secondary job!

I appreciate that you guys show the reality of projects, it's not all perfect right off the line. You can't become an expert without mistakes and failure. We're human after all and we shouldn't be afraid of it.

I feel like some suction thing on sliders with adjustable angle would be great for consistent dipping

Ive done a bunch of spray paint hydro dipping and if u use good water.. not tap!(probably more toward the RO water) And the few brands that work the best u can get some amazing results. U can even use stencils and leave them in while u dip and get off the wall designs

I really enjoyed seeing this and how OKish on the difficulty the DIY method is. Fair to say as one gets experienced with the films, this could turn into a legit looking results that'll make your ride...or at least accessories be a key (ha) topic in conversations. Shoot I'll give it go during the summer

I've been doing hydrographics for a few years. It takes practice and experience to get just right. There's a fine line between too much activator and too little.
