Recorded from the 10th row floor at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on October 19, 2021 then dubbed with HQ audio(Schoeps MK41's). The Doobie Brothers reunited with Michael McDonald and Billy Payne for their 50th Anniversary tour. This was an incredible show from start to finish! Turn it up loud!

Michael McDonald...the only man in America who can sing without a single word of his singing being understandable, and still captivate you with his tone, soul, and style.

Exactly! I have used this analogy countless times (and those who have seen it will tell me to shut up), but I have always thought of MM's vocals sounding as one would sound after taking a mouthful of hot oatmeal, and then trying to sing to col it off.

@@greenwich1754 ...I think your right. I never thought of that until now. I guess it,s because I already knew the words. Funny.😁

HAAAAAAAAAAAA I was about to comment the same ting. It is hilarious! Lovely to see it continue. That was a very special time in my life. Much joy and much pain (haha; as Frankie Beverly would say in another classic of those years, "Joy and Pain" -- glad this reminded me of that!) And now it is effing 2023... Came really effing fast. Cheers!

As a black kid growing up in SF during the 70's..the Doobie Brothers was one of many great bands that inspired me to play guitar. I remember staying in my room downstairs all day on the weekends listening to this music for hours...Santana...Allman Brothers....Chambers Brothers...The Barkays...Funkadelic...Steely Dan...Tower of Power...Cold Blood...Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young...EWF....wow such great music! Actual musicians performing great music...music today is so homogenized and predictable...everything sounds the same. Although the Marcus King Band and Durand Jones and the Indications do make great music in that "classic rock/R&B" flavor and give great performance too.

I grew up up and down the peninsula and almost every weekend was spent listening to music in the city. Ended up going to school in the city, worked and lived there too...now a different thing. A different place. But yes! TOP, Cold Blood, Larry Graham (or his fabulous mother, at the piano in Salutos restaurant in Burlingame), Commodores, Santana, etc. places like Wnterland, Circle Star Theatre (!) And a zillion clubs. I was a jazz/ soul person so didn't listen to the Doobie Brothers until I moved into a house where this album was played around the clock. I grew to love some of their songs to this day. The list of musicians goes on, and it was a painful but equally fabulous time. Many cheers!

Killin' performance! Michael McDonald! That incredibly funky & fluid & effortless Gospel piano playing. Song writing at a young age that meets the highest standards. Your singing, what can I say? One of the best of all time! I respect the Brothers also, immensely!! KEEP IT GOING AS LONG AS YOU CAN BREATHE & HAVE A PULSE!!!! I love all of your songs Mr. McDonald, but some of your best songs seem to get buried. Why? Guess there're lots of non musical folks. A&R types. Musical morons! Taking 'bout "I Can Let Go Now"/ "You Can't Make It Love" & others. How great does great get? You & Maurice White influenced me more than anyone else. 'Scuse me but I had to say that!

During the song the piano lost it's energy as the band cushioned it so badly, one really barely hears the fabulous runs he is doing...that is really crappy. You can't even hear the spark of his runs; they're blurry and muffled. Going back to other performances after this. Great that they're still out there!

Michael, you should have stuck closer to the original version. You can't improve on perfection, and the original was perfection. This one, sorry, is just noise by comparison.

I love the Doobies and I’ve been listening since the 70s… But I’m not a fan of Michael’s vocal stylings, where he waits forever and ever to actually sing the line. It’s super distracting and not enjoyable at all.
