Is Michael McDonald wearing a Bruce Hornsby t shirt? This was 7 years before he had his 1st hit in 1986 with "The Way It Is"
@EricOngerth3 жыл бұрын
oh yeah, I just noticed the shirt too. Bruce and his brother were playing in bands for a good long time before the breakout hit and best selling album with The Range. I recently read the Wikipedia article on him after getting curious just how many other bands he influenced after I was wondering about his time spent touring in the Grateful Dead.
@jasoncharles94812 жыл бұрын
Yes. Michael McDonald was one of the first people to discover Bruce Hornsby. Michael and a handful of other artists including Huey Lewis were trying to get Bruce a record deal. It didn’t happen for years but the shirt seem here was another attempt from Michael to help Bruce.

First set eyes and ears on Michael McDonald at an April 1974 Steely Dan concert at The University of Toledo Memorial Fieldhouse. His singing with Donald Fagen on the song "Pretzel Logic" was a revelation that night. Two years later my wife and I were watching both McDonald and S D guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter performing as permanent members of The Doobie Brothers, while Becker and Fagen took a 19-year break from touring.

I played piano and flute growing up. I could never get this good! What is the secret to knowing what notes/keys to play without sheet music?
@vernonmontoya24492 жыл бұрын
Practice. You got to know your chords and scales. Also recognize song patterns. Most of all, keep playing, especially with other people. The more you play, the better you get.
@frankmessina61322 жыл бұрын
I play by ear but don't read music. Listen for the key center of the song. What note does the song rest on. Once you get the key you can get a sense of major or minor, upbeat or somber. Then you can determine which scales. Listening closely and training your ear I believe iis key, no pun intended

Michael McDonald's started playing at the age of 14-16 as a session musician. he says he knew he was not skilled enough to deserve to be there but he worked hard and he triumphed
@hollysmith9979 Жыл бұрын
@@donnabbmayer5380 I saw a really good interview with him and he talked about his family being musically inclined singing and playing instruments so I think he knew early on that this is what he was going to do so practiced a lot but he already had it naturally. He said in a interview on American Bandstand that he never had any aspersions to be anything else but a musician so lucky for us he did and now he's a living legend. He's also very humble in his interviews it's refreshing to hear him talk he's a bit shy but very intelligent such a beautiful person❤

Is Michael wearing a Bruce Hornsby shirt?
@harrisknight13474 жыл бұрын
Yep...Michael saw Bruce's band in Va one night after a gig the Doobies did at the Hampton Coliseum. He stopped over at a local establishment after their gig and Bruce and his band (which included brother Bobby and sister-in-law Ann) were playing there. Michael had them open for The Doobies the next night in Richmond Va. He helped get them out to California. Rest is history...

So good to see Tiran Porter still there at this point. I am mostly an originalist, and do not like when personnel leave. Adding people is one thing, but when original members leave, it seems to eventually loose slightly something.

You, sir, are very wrong. "Following his graduation from the University of Miami, in 1977, Bruce returned to Williamsburg and played in local clubs and hotel bars. In 1980, he and his younger brother (and songwriting partner) John Hornsby moved to Los Angeles, where they spent three years writing for 20th Century Fox. Hornsby also spent time in Los Angeles as a session musician and touring with Sheena Easton's band before moving back to his native southeastern Virginia." Wikipedia it, dude.
