From The Streets Album, "It Keeps You Runnin' " Written By
Michael McDonald. The Doobie Brothers Live On Soundstage
In Chicago. From The Livin' On The Fault Line Tour 1977.
"It Keeps You Runnin' "
Say, Where You Gonna Go
Girl, Where You Gonna Hide
You Go On Leavin' Out Your Heart
And All It's Sayin' Down Deep Inside
From Here I Can Feel Your Heartbeat
Oh, You Got Me All Wrong
You Ain't Got No Worry
You Just Been Lonely Too Long
I Know What It Means To Hide Your Heart
From A Long Time Ago
Oh, Darlin'
It Keeps You Runnin', Yeah It Keeps You Runnin'
It Keeps You Runnin', Yeah It Keeps You Runnin'
It Keeps You Runnin', Yeah It Keeps You Runnin'
It Keeps You Runnin', Yeah It Keeps You Runnin'
Oh, I Know How You Feel
Hey, You Know I Been There
But What You're Keepin' To Yourself
Oh, You Know It Just Ain't Fair
Are You Gonna Worry
For The Rest Of Your Life
Why You In Such A Hurry
To Be Lonely One More Night
I Know What It Means To Hide Your Heart
From A Long Time Ago
Oh, Darlin'
It Keeps You Runnin', Yeah It Keeps You Runnin'
It Keeps You Runnin', Yeah It Keeps You Runnin'
It Keeps You Runnin', Yeah It Keeps You Runnin'
It Keeps You Runnin', Yeah It Keeps You Runnin'

Say where you gonna go, girl where you gonna hide....I know what it means to hide your heart, from a long time ago...(sigh) the lyrics, his voice, keyboard skills. What a body of work Michael McDonald has created over a lifetime. Kennedy Center Honors, where are you? Induct this man.

When I want to remember the ecstasy of my once in a life time soul mate, I listen to this song. We didn’t have much time, 4yrs. We ran out of time, the end was coming for him. He told me he didn’t want to leave me and his only wish was to be able to take me with him because he knew how painful it was going to be for me. It was a gozillion times worse than I imagined. It took 5 yrs before I could even listen to any music at all. I started with this and a deep peace came over me, I knew HE was listening to it with me. It keeps me running until my time is up, I cannot wait to see my beloved soul mate again. Michael McDonalds voice is a gift from God and it touches your soul. 👵🏻❤️✌️

Oh yes! But there were many fine looking musicians back in the day. We liked our boys and young men with that long clean hair (like McDonald) in the 70’s. It just did something to us ! ;)

I turned 16 in 1977 and I loved Michael McDonald he had such a soulful sound. My favorite song was What a fool believes. We were listening to Earth Wind and Fire, the temptations. My Dad called anything that wasn’t whiny country music, cat music...lol he would yell to us from down the hall, turn that cat music down. Those were carefree days, I wish I had them all back again

A few years ago I saw Michael open for the band Toto. I'll make this simple, the music that night was magical. Music brilliance all across the stage. After the concert I was walking around and ended up grabbing a bite to eat. I ran into a group of teenagers in line we started talking. I told them I went to see Micheal McDonald and Toto. They all looked bewildered and then one of them asked me, Michael McDonald isn't he related to the McDonald hamburger chain? I just looked at them and turned away. I couldn't even answer them.

We aren't getting any younger, are we? I've had similar encounters with young folks when an entertainer died, where they didn't know who it was. It's just a reminder that nothing lasts forever.

.....Ok, so we pick this up earlier this afternoon, and my 11 y/o is with me in the truck on an errand. I've got the "Best of Doobies" playing and this tune comes on. After a minute or so I look over and my son is got the head going back and forth with his eyes closed. I look back at the road. "So, you digging on this song?"....with a smile. He comes back with, "This is so good dad, I can really feel this." Of course, I'm grinning ear to ear by now. "It must have been so cool to be young back then." ...."Yes it was son, but I was 16 when this song came out, so I just got my driver's license, and life was great!"
