this is so beautiful and stunning? and such a unique idea? stones have always been used for inks and pigments!! and i didnt know these exists and now i Need them? but college supplies are expensive enough right now. One day Gemstone Paints. one day.

I think the "brown" one is like sepia. I have a sepia tube of M Graham watercolor paint & I expected brown but it was more on the gray side -- but i loved it! super deep & moody. great for shadows

Ahhhh sparkly Amethyst! My fave, you can get dot cards that have every Daniel Smith colour on them to try and they tell you if they granulate, are opaque or transparent and their light fastness :D

The kuretake ones are supposed to be used like gouache because they're traditional Japanese watercolors used for sumi e drawings so if you use less water the colors are way more vibrant.

This may just be me being a gem freak, but it makes me very happy to see that five out of the six minerals used in the watercolors are lesser known minerals. I guess it just makes me so happy because it exposes people to new types of minerals. Like piemonite? I feel like no one knows that mineral. Just makes me happy. Also these watercolors seem super fun to use! I’m tempted to try them out now.

You can totally use watercolor right out of the tube without letting it dry! I love using them right out of the tube, and I love that when they dry up you can reactivate them! I'm so glad to see Adam getting more into watercolor

I have the Amethyst tube, and it is by far the best color I own. I like mixing it with other purples I have becuase it's SO GLITTERY, and it looks like diamonds on the paper. Yay Daniel Smith

artistpending but don’t you usually use that measurement for pressure? That’s what we use PSI (pounds per square inch) for in the US.

Daniel Smith watercolours are the BEEEEEEST I LOVE DANIEL SMITH 🤘 Also bahahah! 300 gsm means it's REALLY thick watercolour paper that will withstand lots of water. 👍

I wasn’t surprised that the Hematite paint ended up grey as the gemstone is a metallic grey, almost like graphite. It confused me that the paint tube was brown haha. The rhodonite paint is surprising too as the tube appeared a deep cherry red but ended up being the bright blush colour that the rhodonite gemstone really is ☺️

We had to make our own acrylic paints in paiting class @ uni!! it was super fun getting the materials we had to go to drug stores and get color powder used to paint builings

Steph, you will absolutely love the color opera rose (watercolor or gouache by winsor&newton). It is almost a neon pink. I love it!

You can make watercolor out of shells! I've used stones/rocks/ and shells before because they're sort of easy to find

at my university in our painting classes, we make our own paint. It’s not actually very hard at all. it’s really fun and a good way to get custom colors
