Doogie White talks to Phil Aston for the Now Spinning Magazine Podcast
Doogie White talks about his career from being a member of the Deep Purple Appreciation Society, his influences, Ritchie Blackmore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Schenker, Tank and his latest band Alcatrazz. The new album Take No Prisoners is one of the best metal albums I have heard for a while!.
This is a conversation rather than an interview and those of you who know Phil's style will love this.

Doogie is a fantastic singer! I saw him with Rainbow in Hollywood CA and he covered every singer from Purple and Rainbow, perfectly. That show was amazing. Especially seeing Blackmore in a small club up close. That was the best id ever seen Blackmore play, and i saw him on the Burn tour. This lineup of Rainbow is way under-rated. Peace!

Really great interview, Doogie is such a nice guy and he's got an amazing career so far, plus his Scottish accent is so enjoyable 👍 I like the insight on my favorite guitar player which is Michael Schenker, it seems he's really understood Michael's uniqueness both as a musician and a person.

Phil thank you for this excellent video featuring Doogie! Doogie comes across as a very solid, down to earth man..I really enjoyed his insights into Blackmore/Schenker and Malmsteen..No ego and just his sense of being present..I really enjoy Doogie ability to communicate clearly and truly thinking before speaking..His choice of words and ability to blend into his environment without judgement is very refreshing..Keep these great interviews coming Phil..How about a tribute to Tank?

Stranger In Us All is an album I enjoy and would rank higher than a few Rainbow and Deep Purple albums. After Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner it was refreshing to hear a singer a bit more in the vein of Ronnie James Dio again. No disrespect to either Graham or Joe. I wouldn't mind another Temple of Rock album either!

Great, insightful, thoroughly informative and entertaining video ... well done to you both for this ... I need to check out the new Alcatrazz album ... and dig out / play the Stranger in Us All CD .... saw Doogie with Schenker and Scorpions duo on bass and drums at Lemon Tree in Aberdeen a few years back ... a special night .... cheers again ... Hello, Phil. Well, that was a lovely chat !! You two gents were destined to get on famously at the drop of the DPAS. An immediate comfort level on common ground. Doogie is very astute, " Gillan= Elvis, Coverdale=Paul Rodgers, Glenn Hughes=Stevie Wonder,JLT=Lou Gramm" He stole from the best, indeed. Job well done,Phil ! Lots of great info was unearthed on the guitar slingers, both onstage and off.

Hi Phil , what a brilliant intervew , excellent questions too . Doogie seems a wonderful humble guy and tells a great tale , along with being a superb singer. Yes his version of Temple of the King really stirs the soul. I'm certain he could do similar with rainbow Eyes or dare I say it ... Catch the Rainbow. A part II would be good ??? . Thank you for the trip down memory lane buying vinyl - yes fond memories of buying my first albums ( which inpire me still ) rainbow Rising , Rush Farewell to Kings and Made in Japan .... a few months later Van Halen I was acquired ..."WOW"!!! .. So glad Doogie refused to play in Russia after Putin started the war. Thanks for a great interview. Must hear that Alcatrazz song. I don't agree re. the most recent Rainbow line-up, though. David Keith, Bob Nouveau, Jens Johansson - on par with predecessors. But if Stranger In Us All is Rainbow's last album, at least it's a real classic. Love the whole record. Black Masquerade, Wolf to the Moon, Ariel, Silence - superb. Like Blackmore, Schenker's in my Top 3 Guitar-players, so Doogie does work with interesting people. Agree with Doogie on Gary Barden's voice - almost the two Ians, Gillan and Hunter, combined. Cheers!🌈

@NowSpinningMagazine got to play soccer with ritchie and ritchie paice and gillan the second time. I'll try and send some pics next time. Jon Lord was the nicest guy. Also Jethro Tull were in Sydney at the same time and I was sitting at a table with ritchie, ian anderson and stuart smith his guitar assistant. Also met lemmy , jimmy page and Robert plant on several occasions. In 83 I went to donnington and then a couple of weeks later to Dublin to see Mama's Boys, Anvil,Twisted Sister, Motorhead and Sabbath.

I disagree with Dougie on the false Rainbow Birmingham shows. Ritchie had a great time, especially the 2017 show where they had the stage manager ready to pull the plug for going passed the curfew. A 70+ legend may not have hit the heights of 40 years before but he did provide some magic moments. Standing on the Birmingham International platform after the 2016 show a young lad turned to me and said it was the best night of his life.

Hi Phil. Don't be surprised that he doesn't listen to that much music. Many great singers/musicians don't, which they are pretty open about. This is just another example. Another thing that might be a surprise is that lot's of musicians actually aren't very good listeners, and even more doesn't have a particular good hearing. It's not required for what they do, though it may come as a shock to quite a few. Besides that most musicians have various degree of hearing damage, which kinda goes with the territory. That's why a lot of studies carried out in studios with musicians as test subjects never gets peer reviewed. Those conducting the studies have doomed the research from the start by choosing the worst test subjects possible. Music and hifi magazines may publish studies like that to have something to write about, but they wouldn't survive one minute if analyzed by real researchers. Musicians get their ideas in the head, and that's where they hear how it's supposed to sound. But hearing it in your head and getting that sound on the album are two very different things. That's why they depend on producers and sound engineers (magic ears) for the mixing. But this is of course a bit of topic, and only goes to show that we can be too quick to jump to conclusions. Remember, Beethoven was deaf. Great interview. Thanks Mate. All the best from Denmark.
