It's not just dynamic, it's quite possibly the most sophisticated sound track in any game. It ebbs and flows with combat in ways that you absolutely don't notice until you're the only thing left standing in a pool of demon blood. It's fantastic.
@trevorveillette8415

Err I wouldn't say that much. The doom tracks can be very hit or miss for people. If you love metal, you'll love this stuff for sure. If you're not a metal fan, some songs might stick out as awesome from the rest. Thats what a universally good soundtrack does. Despite not actually liking the whole soundtrack, or even the majority of it, it still has a handful of dope ass songs. My favorite is "the only thing they fear is you". As for most sophisticated soundtrack. No that would HAVE to go to NieR:Automata. The music is layered in multiple versions that all play at once, but all except for the current version being played are muted. This allows the game to transform the song you're listening to, into alternate versions seamlessly. From quiet, medium, dynamic, with vocals or without vocals on each of these, and even 8 bit versions. All of these run at once and interchange. Know whats extra awesome about this? The alternate versions aren't even considered official versions, they're just awesome bonus alternatives that are worthy of being considered their own songs. So the official soundtrack has about 43-46 songs I believe, but the actual games soundtrack list could be between 100-200 if you include all versions. (46x6 or 46x7 for the rough estimate, then add remixes that don't fit in the mentioned categories, aka some songs have special versions) That's just the technical portion. How it's used in the games story and events, how it is arguably the most emotionally enhansive soundtrack with its pairing with the games characters, events, story and scenes. It just completely elevates the impact of every aspect of the game. And the last cherry on top is that a great deal of the songs are orchestral, which is a form of music in the highest degree of musical performance already, on its own. But hey that's just my opinion and conjecture.
@FunnyGinMan
@FunnyGinMan 2 жыл бұрын
@@trevorveillette8415 For sure the songs by themselves do have their lulls in them. BFG Division is one of the biggest offenders as the majority of the middle is mostly ambient sound. I was mostly referring to how the music seamlessly transitions between versions of songs based on what you're doing in game. There have only been a few games which do this as well as DOOM has, likely because it requires not only a phenomenal sound design artist, but also complex programming. That's really what I was talking about when I said it's one of the most sophisticated soundtracks.

@@trevorveillette8415 I actually kinda prefer the music in Replicant. It’s not dynamic in the same way, but I feel like I’ve been listening to its soundtrack way more than I was after I played Automata
@vaxellimus
@vaxellimus 2 жыл бұрын
Nier:AutomatA is much more complex in terms of implementation, but I agree that DOOM is a very tough contender. What gives Nier the edge is how insane the 8-bit counterparts of EACH song is woven perfectly into gameplay without feeling jarring on the ears.

You really don't notice the music shifting, it's designed in such a way that the OST gets superseded by the gameplay sounds, so the adjustment gets lost in the explosions and gunshots and meat sounds. It all just works and it's not jarring at all.

The dynamic system is why it has all those riffs and one song can be many, as well as why mixing it into a single cohesive soundtrack piece without the game. These are stems that can be stitched together dynamically by the program or by the mixer. I wanna say the first time I encountered dynamic music in gaming was the iMuse system made for Star Wars: TIE Fighter by LucasArts and Dark Forces. Originally it was made for their adventure games, the very first game to use it at all being Monkey Island 2.

Ok. the OFFICIAL OST version is different, but practically unavailable. Kuma did a great job, and I like his work a lot, but because he had to get it all together into a song, it's not all Mick this time. And before everyone lashes at me, yes, I know, official isn't all Mick as well. Only some of it. Yes, DOOM music is dynamic. I'm not sure how id software did this, but basically, the harder into demons faces you push, the harder the music goes.
@Snavels
@Snavels 2 жыл бұрын
The soundtrack you hear is all stitched together, Theyre all originally smaller, separate, and shorter tracks. For example, File names might be UAC_Heavy_Combat_001 UAC_Heavy_Combat_002 and so on... or UAC_Light_Combat_001 and so on. Heavy demon spawns and the game randomly picks and appropriate track to play. Mick had to compose these to work together and transition seamlessly
