Welcome to the fifth "does it matter" episode where we are trying to find ways to make my third generation honda civic faster so it can eventually do a sub 9 minute nurburgring laptime. In this fifth episode we will test if a dot 5.1 brake fluid will make it possible to brake for a longer period of time as currently my brakes overheat after about 5 to 6 minutes

Great video! You should let the expert drink 4 glasses of each type of brake fluid and ask him to tell you which is which. This will help everyone believe that he is a true expert on the subject. Bottoms up!

Cool video! I suspect most of the difference comes from replacing old fluid with new fluid, not necessarily from it being DOT 5.1? It'd be cool to test new DOT 4 vs new DOT 5.1 of the same brand. Good luck with the car's prep!

You should stick with motul, choosing motul rbf 660 dot 4 You would have brake fluid with 325degC dry boiling point and 204 wet, so a lot better then dot 5.1.

@@TheMidnightGarage There is only one brand that offers rear strut braces and that's Cusco. They offer front strut braces as well. With some slight adjustment to the hood you can use the front one from Wiechers for the Honda CRX AS. Otherwise you can use Chedda parts from Canada.

Hey, waarom ben je niet voor dot4 rbf600 gegaan? Meeste track auto's gebruiken dat ipv de 5.1 ivm hoger kook punt. Enige nadeel tegenover 5.1 is iets vaker wisselen.

dot 5.1 has lower viscosity than dot 3 and 4. did you notice any fluid leak? because in old cars this can happen when switching to 5.1

If there is enough of a leak for viscosity to matter, Air would already be in your system. Please stop spreading misinformation.

Is Brembo 5.1 hygroscopic? I want to use it on my daily street car

The higher the boiling point, the more hygroscopic the brake fluid is.

All brake fluid is somewhat hygroscopic, with the exception of dot 5 silicone based fluids, which you should never use for any reason. Dot 5.1 seems to last a bit longer than 3 or 4 in my experince however.
