I'd say you did a damn good job ranking your top ten songs. I agree with most of your choices and their order. "A day in the life" would definitely be in my top ten. I think I would slot in in where you have "Being for the benefit of Mr. Kite". What no McCartney? LOL
@dotsloops7486Ай бұрын
Thanks Ron! A Day in the Life. I sort of figured was Half a psych song. The whole part of “dragging a comb, and noticing he was late” was just a bit “Paul” for me to call it pure Psych. But I’m probably wrong! 😑 thanks man!

Man, this is probably the best list of psychedelic Beatles songs I’ve ever seen! So many include songs that I don’t think I would personally classify as psychedelic, such as Love You To, Within You Without You, and The Inner Light, which I consider raga. Because psychedelic music takes heavy influence from raga, I think that causes people to retroactively mislabel it as “psychedelic.” Plus, other songs such as A Day In The Life, Baby You’re Rich Man, The Fool On The Hill, Because, Sun King, and Across The Universe are ones that I don’t think are really psychedelic. It’s also weird that no psychedelic songs were recorded after ‘67. Long, Long, Long was probably the closest thing. But this list includes nearly every song I would call psychedelic! I realize this is a top ten, but the only others I would’ve included would be Magical Mystery Tour, I’m Only Sleeping, and the criminally underrated Flying. Great list nonetheless though!

Great comment. I also don’t think A Day In The Life is very Psych, thanks!

I think you nailed that list Dan....perfect! If nothing else it definitely confirms Paul didn't do anywhere near as much psychedelics as John or George, musically and medicinally 😄. Cheers Nige

Rain is the best song that never appeared on Revolver and deservedly regarded as their finest B side. Love the Magical Mystery Tour selections here, completely agree. A Day in the Life is very avant-garde pop, perhaps less a Psychedelic song and more influenced by musique concrete.. if nothing else for that outrageous middle eight and outro. Great video Dan, always great hearing from you.
@dotsloops7486Ай бұрын
Thanks so much Rob! Agree about Rain. Damn I love that track! It’s an amazing! A day in the life. I’m on the fence and agree with you. Maybe psych? Some psych elements but it’s a bit of a patch work track. Cheers!

Solid choices - Flying might be on my list. Glad Rain got on the list. TNK was of COURSE going to be #1. Maybe Within You Without You on my list, maybe I'm Only Sleeping... but I don't know if I could knock off other songs.

Can't argue with the Beatles ability to do acid rock. To me Harrison was the most psychedelic and therefor I would have to go with Only A Northern Song, a true mesmerizing experiment. And then Tomorrow Never Knows of course. Great rundown though and excellent topic!

Great list Dan Da Man, can't argue too much with that list, but where I truly believe The Beatles really started to experiment with their sound combined with the devils lettuce and other party favorites, mind expanding edibles is probably either my favorite or 2nd favorite album is off of the mighty remarkable Rubber Soul album, the track (Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown). eh Maybe more known to be the Pot album, but a worthy top ten contender that evolved into Revolver!!! Cheers Brother 🤟🤟

And to think in Junior High are choir was singing Lucy in The Sky and we had no idea we were singing about LSD to our parents. Pretty sure our parents did not know that either lol.

Great list! I think Beatles were the greatest psychedelic band ever. Love that you have "Rain" in there, that is just killer. Personally I would trade the Harrison tracks for more Lennon tracks, like 'A Day In The Life', 'I'm Only Sleeping' or 'Because' or 'Happiness Is a Warm Gun, the list can go on 😊. And put 'I am the Walrus' at number two after Tomorrow Never Knows. But overall a great list! Cheers!

Floyd’s “Piper at the Gates of Dawn” and the Pretty Thing’s “S.F. Sorrow” were recorded at Abbey Road at the same time as Sergeant Pepper. The bands even socialized and shared some instruments.
