If it was "oil" (I believe you mean hydraulic oil), then you would see liquid/fluid in the lines. This is a double acting pneumatic cylinder being controlled by pneumatic limit switches. In order to control the speed/rate of travel in either direction flow controls need to be added to both sides of the cylinder.
