Solo Strings are slightly ligher gauge than standard strings which allows them to be tuned up a step. Some Bassist I found used a new tuning called Solo Fifths tuning which is Fifths tuning up a step.

There is also 5ths tuning which is C1, G1, D2, A2 (E3) because the intonation will be more in tune with the rest of the String family.

Solo tuning is just up a whole step. 5ths Tuning is essentially the same as a Cello but down an Octave (plus a High E for the 5 String Models, & eventually Low F and Bb for the 6 & 7 String Models) & it'll allow the Bass to have better intonation.
