you guys rock! here's an idea for you, in a standard shift car add a 2nd standard transmission only backwards, out put shaft becomes the imput shaft, while shifting the regular transmission , leave the 2nd transmission in high gear, then when the regular transmission is in high gear, you downshift the 2nd transmission , it acts as a mutiplier transmission for high speed, just an idea , thank you.

Really great prototype. I would like to see it developed further. Sprung ballast mounted to the differential might help deliver traction and damping. It was outlawed from F1 for being too effective. Perfect garage54 technology in my opinion. Paired tractor wheels on the rear and skinny tires on the front.

i had the same idea as with my brother had it to on a back ( fount for now keep it stock just modify it to EV front 4x4 / steering ) 60's-70's mopar just a 3 link ( 8-3/4 modified ) with full length 1955 packer Caribbean 💻 contorted style torsion bars + 2 streering box of a 1 ton or bigger as 90* boxes and air springs ( coils will work or hydronmatic frenches 💻 are probably the best choice ) on the ends of the axle to absorb the higher HZ frequency's vs T-bars plus different spring rates and give some adjustments for toe and camber ect. on the fly. im lazybones working on doing it but gald to see it works. i just was planning on locking out the hydro parts on lunch control/limited for more traction

You could use a heavier engine to help lower the front end, which would straighten up the front wheels. A set of air shocks on the rear will straighten those up and provide more clearance for the McPherson struts which appear to be encroaching on the drive axles. I always enjoy watching the antics and ideas you dream up. Keep it up.

I knew a guy who had a model '63 Volga. He had fitted in a diesel engine and the transmission form an old Hiace, it was his everyday car until the early 10's when he passed away. He could not handle gasoline pretty much at all, even fumes occasionally gave hin serious skin issues. He was 20-some years younger than my grandfather, whom he aso knew, both were known locally as tinkerers and "inventors".

I'm guessing the double suspension car on trailer will work very differently if the resonant frequency of the two suspensions correspond or not. Stacked suspensions that are resonant, a bit like the Tacoma Narrows bridge, I would expect. Maybe not failure, but one hell of a ride. A non same frequency spring mass system would be a bit like those multi pendulum things, with a small pendulum on the bottom of a large one. One interesting note of something similar but the more critically damped version (IIR my terminology correctly): the coupled metronomes on a common springy platform. If you've never seen that case it is quite interesting. They synchronize over large periods of time, compared to the metronome rate. The series coupled multi pendulums, VERY different, the smaller pendulum gets into and out of all manner of low to high rotation rate modes, seemingly at random, probably since small initial conditions make large differences in immediate outcomes. :-) Your setup, however is much different than the car on trailer design, as the spring mass of the trailer make up one system and the spring mass of the car, another where your double suspension essentially operates on the same mass (minus the mass of the lower suspension) on top. A very different coupling model. I suspect yours is not as significantly different as just extending the strut and placing two springs on top of each other would be, especially springs of very different rates, but I could be wrong, as the damping action is separated on your setup, and the suspension is horribly configured, compared to a proper suspension. What a suspension really does, in terms of car traction/handling, is to up the spring/mass frequency response, or bandwidth, over an 'unsuspended' car. Meaning the tire can respond MUCH faster to bumps, potholes, uneven lanes, and the like. No car is truly unsuspended wrt the tires moving somewhat independently to the car, due to vertical tire elasticity and bending in the frame, axles, etc., but if you've ever ridden in a solid no suspension go kart the ride is VERY different, as is grip on very uneven surfaces. In the typical street car a kidney belt is not required. :-/ Take the springy mounts out from the engine mounts, as I did as a kid by adding a mount forward from the top gas tank mount (it was thick) to the seat frame. You could barely see as a result, vision was a total blur. You learn useful things doing stupid crap like that. :-) You guys do the weirdest most interesting experiments, and almost always a good laugh involved somewhere. Fun channel. You do a lot of the stupid crap I never thought of. The biggest laugh here, for me, was "it's not nearly as wobbly as we thought it would be". Then he gets in the trunk, applies some motion, and the car swings side to side like a drunk monkey. I definitely saw that coming. A little lateral AND longitudinal stiffness is a REQUIREMENT. You guys obviously did nothing to address that. Think panhard rods, watts links, four bar links, etc. OOPS. Then says "panhard rod". A highly modified watts link might make more sense, if there was any possible way to do it, fit wise and geometrically, maybe turning the axle mounted rotating part parallel to the ground. Before you ran that frankencar my thought was that it was completely frightening. "Something tells me this will be bonkers in the best way possible" ... yeah... or the worst. "C'mon, where's my grip". When the rear tires are showing way too much positive camber, are towed in at about 10 X the max spec, and the suspension is swinging side to side about a foot. Really, do you have to ask? That was the best line of the whole vid. Good job on keeping the car level, too. It looked more like a boat before plane than a car. Maybe you beat it later, actually with "Drives nice", immediately preceding the quarter spin. I'm quite sure the major car designer/manufacturers will be adopting this any moment now....not. Hilarious, like almost always.
