Villain Dies, of “I NEVER DIE”, you can’t help but think it refers to Soojin’s forced departure. They had a live performance of this song at MMA Awards 2022, in which they literally said “I’m no longer a prisoner.”

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. For me there are two (G)I-DLEs: Pre and Post TOMBOY. I don't think Soyeon had an issue with talking about big issues in her songs before, but after the stuff that happened to Soojin and the group's livelihood seemingly up in the air, I think the gloves were off. TOMBOY came back swinging, all subtlety gone. Part of it was "this is our last chance, let's do everything we've wanted to do because what do we have to lose" sort of deal, but the other part was they put more of their pure emotions into I NEVER DIE. After that, (G)I-DLE's been more personal and in your face about the things they want to talk about. Again, I want to preference that they were still talking about heavy issues before, but it was vailed in metaphor. The best thing about (G)I-DLE, is that they never were trend riders and always did things their way. So TOMBOY wasn't completely out of no where. It fits their character. But yes, there was a shift and one that arguably was for the better. They were always high mid-tier before TOMBOY, almost just there to being a top group, but now I think everyone can agree they're in the top five. 28:54 ok so some neverland info🤓: hwa means fire and anger so they’re trying to melt down the ice/loneliness (or in other words “HAN” in korean) and bring back the spring/hope/hapiness through their flames. Hwaa also means flower (different Chinese hanja) so the hanja for hwaa switches from the fire version to flower version in the last chorus as they break out of the abyss/HAN.☺️ that’s how HAN and HWAA are connected. And there’s another song called “Han alone in winter” in the “I burn” album and it’s supposed to be a trilogy🥹!

Their album is always top tier. But you can see how much they've improved since "I burn". "I burn" is just one of the best albums out there, with Hwaa as title track and the bsides are literal fire! You should definitely check it out, even without recorded reaction especially Moon and Dahlia. After I burn, they released "I Never Die", "I Love", and, "I feel" which is a game changer for them. Definitely step up from their production but "I burn" is justa piece of art.

"Hwaa" remains the song that I think I love the most from their discography. It's so beautiful and emotive and makes me cry nearly everytime I hear it. Also, Yes, Hann, Hann (Alone in Winter) and Hwaa area trilogy of songs depicting the failure of a relationship, the regrest engendered by the break-up, and the recovery of herself in "Hwaa".

imo idle just grow up and evolve non-stop, including in terms of sound. however, i also think that their previous sound really suited soojin a lot, it was more light and airy i think, and now they come off very strong. again after everything that happened and just natural growth. anyways, i enjoy everything they're doing and i love all the songs be it before or post tomboy. i've never loved a k-pop group more than i do with (g)i-dle. their songs and personalities resonate with me so well

Fun fact: HWAA was rejected several times by CUBE, as they believed it would be a failure. It was ultimately a huge success, and in my opinion, is Gidle's best title track.

Uh Oh is so underrated yet it's always going to be one of my top favs from this group. they really kill every single concept

for me, hwaa is their best song to date. it's so ethereal in such a poetic yet haunting manner. the lyricism is incredible and the tone of the song is perfect.

just wanted to point out one thing you didnt catch... in hwaa the first two choruses had "hwaa(fire) shall bloom a flower" and the last chorus had "hwaa(flower) shall light up a fire".. I just want to let you know that on Patreon you reacted to (G)I-DLE's Golden Disk awards performance and in the beginning of their performance is an intro of each member talking. It is actually them talking in Soojin's (Member that was falsely accused of bullying) and the other girl's (that made up this rumor) Point of View of the whole situation. They say "Once upon a time there was a woman" / "She hurt me and bullied me" / "But people really liked her" / "and all that woman just laughing". You can literally see the pain in their eyes as they are standing there... They then continue to perform 'Villain Dies' and 'Tomboy' which are the hardest comeback songs they dropped after Soojin left... BTS of the situation, there were lots of people pointing Soojin to be the "Villain". So in the song "Villain Dies" Soyeon raps "you put me down, in fact you don't even know me that well" / "Who is the villain, that villain was me. I hated her, who ruined everything, but this story's villain was me". They also say "why do you love her. look here. She's always hurting me"... They are LITERALLY talking in Soojin's POV. Saying that in her accusers story, the villain was her (Soojin), how she hated how she ruined everything, why they believed her and not herself... The girls loved Soojin and the whole situation was unfair to all of them. That is why they will never let her be forgotten and will continue to show that through their music and performances. I just wanted to give you some more background to this group and that situation because a lot of what they do connects to it! I hope this helps you understand. btw: idle debuted in a time when kpop groups had such defined concepts, but they're own concept was exploring different concepts while having concepts for the girls themselves. for example: soojin was sexy, minnie was chic, soyeon was sexy... so they kept their own concepts within different styles of music and MVs❤️

Uh-OH was a shot at the people who told Soyeon she wasn't going to make it but when she succeeded they wanted a part of the success, if you pay attention to her rap lyrics, " i told you i was the gem in this place, but you've been looking at what shines, but missed me who will light up this place" Hwaa was voted by music critics as " the most beautifully poetic" Korean song, it is also one of the few k-pop songs that has no english lyrics, but it has a chinese, english and thai version. If you think Villain Dies lyrics is dark, you should check out Soyeon's "Psycho" and IDLE's "Dark X file" check out Soyeon's solo of "oh my God" for my teenage girl opening, Yuqi's solo of "Lion", Soyeon's Solo of "lion" for Sketchbook and her other performances, but you would enjoy Soyeon's song " smile" ft minnie and Soyeon's "l3gend" stage with Jay Park and Big Naughty.
