Dougie Freedman as Head of Recruitment...what do you think? When it comes to domestic signings, Freedman has a fantastic track record of spotting some serious talents and if Ratcliffe wants to go down that path he could well be considered the best in class choice.

What do I think? I think my support for Manchester United is likely going the same way as Old Trafford. It has been crumbling for many years under the Glazers and looks like it will soon be completely demolished by Ineos. Underwealming, disappointing, upsetting - I'm really very depressed with the direction this new footballing hegemony is taking the club in. "homegrown talent over foriegn stars" - has nobody bothered to unpick this crap? Its for the tabloids and the foaming mouthed swivel eyed brainless morons who hate foreigners and want to return to the 1980s - a simpler time when racism and casual violence was accepted as part of the fun. This "Homegrown talent" bullshit is putting a flimsy ideology over strategy (it has f-all to do with the club's history and echos the brutish nationalism blighting western politics - I hate it). I fully expect Ten Hag will get the sack now (just a matter of timing). He wont want to give up his veto having worked with Murtough already (who is still here by the way, but then his passport is the right kind isnt it). I expect it will be by mutual agreement after he looks at our summer targets. Next I expect some hapless English coach to come in, with much fanfare and jingoism from the gutter press - Potter or Southgate surely, or possibly someone even worse than that - maybe even Carrick or Rooney. So United are now Brexit FC and we've swapped the negligence and greed of the Glazers for an egotistical ideologue who wants a statue built and wants to rename old trafford after his chemical company (very appropriate for the toxic atmosphere amongst fans that he will preside over). Olisse as the first major signing of the Ineos era - an average player in a position we dont need. Not even the best player at Crystal Palace. Crap signing. So I'm probbaly giving up after Ten Hag gets shown the door. I might check in occassionally to remark on how quickly the Ratcliffe promises of knocking our rivals off their pirches (borrowed off Ferguson whom he clearly wants to usurp as the main man at OT) have turned into a bad joke which our rivals can mock us with. I hope it is not confirmed.

I'm just wondering how United would even go about using players like this? I think it would be a lot easier for players in the Championship to move into a team like Palace, compared to United where "every game is a must-win game". And we generally play our 100m "star" players as often as we can. Like would Rashford get dropped for an unknown player from the Championship, or Bruno? I feel like there's a lot less room to grow at United than there is at other smaller clubs, and these players would really have to hit the ground running, because we couldn't afford to play new players for half a season until they get up to speed. But then again, maybe I'm just so used to seeing the United way of doing things for the last decade..

Only 1 of those actually has experience in building a winning squad. Dan Ashworth, despite all his success stories, hasn't actually won anything. Freeman is coming from Crystal Palace, who are fighting relegation. And Wilcox from a club that got relegated last season. Doesn't strike as exactly promising, does it?

@@YorkshirLeeObviously the resources available at Palace aren't the same as at United. This is how business works. You find someone who has great potential and is bigger than their current position. Maybe Friedman has a history of identifying players that Palace later didn't get due to financial limitations etc. There are lots of details we'll never know. Have to wait and see.

we´ve made a lot of signings from UK that have been bad as well. The great clubs in England(Man city, Arsenal, Liverpool) all sign quite a lot of players from around the world. Hard to see why we would go down a more domestic route.

I think it would make a lot from a business perspective, seeing as English players can go for higher sums due to requirements for domestic players (like Maguire) and if those new players manage to get to a Mainoo, Garnacho level, United would an extremely exiting team and players who leave could bolster the economy, instead of going for free because of contracts (Pogba). I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do when Berrada and Ashworth finish building out the scouting, recruitment and data-analytics team. Just hope we have a better medical department by then, doesn't really matters how good our players are when half the team are injured 😂

Difference between pep and other managers is that pep can buy many players in the same position within a short window From grealish, he got Doku, now he'd signed Savio Within how many years? I've been very impressed with what Dougie Freedman has done at Palace. He really has signed some absolute gems for Palace & if he does become our new Head of Recruitment ( which looks increasingly likely ) I wouldn't be at all surprised if we went in for Olise & Guehi in the summer. To be Head of Recruitment it requires more pedigree and all-round experience, including transfer of large marquee signings. It's common for clubs to have scouts assigned to different leagues/countires, right? To me it seems like Dougie would be a great as a scout for domestic low-budget talent, I question the leadership role.

Last year signing tbh were so poor. Onana, Mount, Amrabat, Reguilon, Evans, Hojlund (getting better). But in the squad even worse of quality. Antony, Sancho, VDB, Maguire, Lindelof, Martial all should be let go. We even have so many prone injuries of players or out for a long time like this year Martinez, Malacia, Martial even Shaw. Maybe we need more stronger players that already playing for 30-40 games per year rather than keeping prone injuries

Good analysis as usual, but why not look at the South American football for the talents coming up. English players are overrated yet majority lack technical abilities to turn into marque players.Psg Barcelona and Madrid are busy fishing from south America. Why don't we at least copy Benfica,Bvb and sporting CP strategy though with a different view of why doing so. Look at moscardo, caicedo, nevez and more

In other words, having coached both Timber and Licha, your coach (knowing we didn't have a left footed CB) wanted to sign Timber for much more money than Martinez was available for. I do not believe home grown will give Utd any future success. By all means go for young upcoming players who are still hungry and can be groomed into a culture, but the talent offshore is huge. Take Joao Neves for example, he is the best future CDM and UTD must bring him in.

Sam i dont think its fair of you to say ten hags talent id is bad considering what he asked for and got! Stop looking for the next one and just buy some already damn good players now! Fernandes is our ONLY high assist player. He gets injured and we're dropping down the table for sure. We need at least two more high assist midfielders.
