However, what United needs is that facilitator midfielder. Not the guy you notice because they are spraying 60 yard passes, or crunching into last ditch tackles, or scoring screamers from 35 yards. We need a Carrick type player, the guy who'll quietly do the jobs in midfield that enable everyone else to play 10-20% better. The facilitator, the midfield foil. Could Onana be that player? Maybe, I'm just not sure we have seen him play that way or show enough technical quality on the ball for a top side to justify spending the 60-70m it would likely cost to sign him. For 45-50m then absolutely snap him up for what he has shown and his EPL proven status. You can take a little gamble at that price that he could develop that more technical side of his game. One of the biggest errors United have consistently made in the past decade or more is they sign players who are playing well in a totally different system or style of play to what United play. Which automatically raises the question of how would he play in a more ball dominant, possession based side. Currently there is no evidence to suggest he would thrive in that system, unlike a player like Florentino Luis who has played in that style or Mohamed Camara who has also excelled in a more possession controlled side. While they haven't proven themselves in the EPL they have proven themselves playing for a side that plays a similar style to what we want to play, for me that is far more important.

I dont understand how are these players vauled so low. Mctominay is not good enough for Manchester United but he would do wonders in teams that are ranked below us. Same goes for Sancho, Mejbri and Pelistri. Look at the players like Elanga and Mengi. They are thriving in their respective clubs but we sold them for peanuts whilst City sells their youngsters like Trafford and the rest for a lot more money. Players who come thru our ranks should be valued more because of that. We have lowered the bar so much ourselves. The Onana thing, I honestly dont see him as a long term solution. Onana is defo a good passer. Thuram has tailed off massively this season. Struggled to establish himself in Nice’s first team. Onana is a better passer than Thuram and Kamara
