I`m familiar with two meanings of "spook" - the ghostly one and the alternative name for a spy. Possibly there is another meaning that I`m not familiar - if you so may enlighten me... However, while never a spy, in WWII Fairbanks had a very active and distinguished naval career in both the British and American naval services, initially as a member of Mountbatten`s Commando group, and later commanding a combined group of US PT craft and British gunboats. His war time decorations included the Italian War Cross For Military Valour, the Legion d`honneur and the Croix de geurre from France, the British Distinguished Service Cross, from America the Silver Star, and the Brazilian Government made him an Officer Of The National Order Of The Southern Cross.

@@layersoftheonion8168 No not quite, but aside from spending the war very much in harms` way, he was deeply involved throughout in the planning of diversion - deception operations, not least in the August 1944 amphibious assault on the South of France in which he also took part. A very accomplished theatre and film actor, and a fellow with no small degree of military ability and much personal courage...
