Welcome back to another edition of Poker Hands. This time we're breaking down a ridiculous hand from ‪@TheLodgeLive‬ where Brad Owen gets mixed up with the always unpredictable Taras. Playing one of the biggest pots of his life, Brad has a big decision to make. Was it the right one?

I remember well Doug stating he was virtually done with poker: didn't enjoy these hand analyses, didn't play online aside from the HU challenge with DN, didn't enjoy the televised live games etc. Since then he's opened a poker room and subsequently has been playing in the streamed games quite a bit. Just doing it to grow the business or somehow re-found the enjoyment of the game? Just being curious, I'm not a customer of USP and not a potential Lodge player either (not a North American).

Damn DP it’s good to hear you breaking shit down just like back in the day. See- When your a good dude you can always go back home and everyone will welcome you back. You have always been extremely good at this anyway so there’s that. Communicating relatively complex betting scenarios in a way anyone can at least make progress in their learning and enjoy the vid even if we do not yet completely understand wtf the math is coming from. Then later when it all finally clicks it’s like oh yeah this what DP was talking about- I know what’s going on. You the man sunshine. 😂😂😂

Yeah, if Brad bets 10k on the flop, he’s more likely to get away from shove. Also, a check behind would be fine knowing your opponent is most likely holding a pair (as played) pre flop and is not going anywhere. You really expect a fold there on the flop? You’re building the pot with ace high…

The mistake comic book guy made preflop becomes way less of an error if Brad is gonna bet/call with just 2 overs. He's actually lucky to even have 23% as Taras would very probably play 2 pair and sets this way. Put Hellmuth instead of Brad and this video would have been about the worst call in the history of poker. Doug clearly sugarcoating this.

Love this hand and the way it was played by Taras. When used very sparingly, this kind of hand can be devastating, just like this example. I Like Brad and he is an outstanding player but he played this hand poorly on every decision. He played it as if he had AA. It is a common mistake with AK suited, especially after a run of bad hands or little action.

Can someone explain how using a smaller sizing preflop gives Brad more bluffs? Doesn’t a larger sizing give you more room to bluff because the villain needs to win more often when they call the larger you bet?
@jaysmith9580
@jaysmith9580 Жыл бұрын
A larger sizing increases the fold equity for Brad’s opponent but also reduces the opponent’s fold equity when he jams against Brad, meaning Brad shouldn’t have bad hands when he uses a larger sizing that isn’t an all in because he’ll be priced in to call a jam with a poor hand if he’s bluffing. Essentially, if you want to keep ranges wide and include a lot of bluffs and also be able to value bet a bit more thinly, you need to keep your bet sizes smaller. If you want to narrow (polarise) your range then you should go larger. But if you’re going to do that, you may as well just go all in to maximise fold equity when you’re bluffing.

There's a great poker coach that advocates a half half in these spots This is definitely a fair bit different as it's alot deeper But if he calls the jam anyway he's better off putting half the effective stack in pre and then it's a no brainer on what the villain does And when u shove the flop he makes a huge mistake if he folds And he misses the flop more often than not

I really doubt that his decission to call is the right play here... He will be behind or dominated most of the time, especially with the fact that his opponent is a very tight player .. and well, the question about the right odds to call: I have a different perspective on that one: it would be a justified call if you ALWAYS play these Stakes... But that's not the case here, so you have bad odds to call for such a huge amount of Money giving the fact that you will loose (at least) 3 out of four...

I seriously disagree with Doug's range here. Considering he 4-bet then called the 5-bet. I'm putting his range on 88+ and some suited Broadways. When he check jams the flop I'm not really narrowing that range much. Take out KQs but leave in QJs. But most importantly I'm thinking he probably has a hand like 77 or 88. It has a lot of equity here but it's still losing to a lot in Brad's range. That is beating a hand like that. So the jam is a way to protect it by trying to force a fold by AA or KK because of the set possibility. T7 is a hand id never put in his range. The call by Brad was really bad imo. Because I'd have him as having a pocket pair as his most likely hand. So I'd figure the AK is behind. Best case scenario my opponent has 77 or 88 and I peel an A or K and he misses. That's a huge gamble. If I'm Brad I fold in this spot. It sucks ass. But it's the smart play.
