Doug, is not the bigger issue that some person outside the hand starts asking him questions if he should put the rest of it in? Seems kind of out of line having a player at the table trying to fish out information of a guy in a big moment on the river...

nah. that's older style poker man. sometimes asking questions or just thinking out loud can get weaker players to react. that's just how the game is meant to be played. I think the newer generation that comes to the table and all but covers their face with a mask is a really lame way to play.

I think that betting smaller as a bluff can work really well when your opponent has a weak range. Then you can rep a wider and less polarized range. With that said, his stack on the river was too small to do anything else than shoving.
@EGarrett01

Strong bit of info that I hadn't noticed before but is true, when a guy's opponent calls his hand out correctly, the guy will usually say something back really quickly. You can see this a lot on High Stakes Poker and in Daniel Negreanu hands since he's always guessing people's cards out loud. If the guy doesn't answer, he may or may not have that hand, but I don't think I've ever seen someone snap reply when their opponent was misreading them.

I play mostly live 2/5 and talk while bluffing. I also talk while going for value. Not always, but only when I feel the situation pertains to it (the overall mood of the table). I honestly don't believe the vast majority of people have the capability of extrapolating any real information from confident in-hand chatter (a confidence which Buzz seems to notably lack in this spot). I've straight up held flopped nuts and pretty much told iso'd villain that "I am good here" while preparing to stack off and all it did was admittedly put the villain in a leveling tailspin. In my experience people generally don't know wtf to think when you start talking. Imo it really screws with peoples heads and causes people to make errors of judgement (iow focusing on desperately picking apart your speech instead of the progression of the hand). As long as you legitimately do not tilt, I think talking can be extremely effective in a variety of spots especially in low-mid stakes.

I actually like buzz's hand selection for bluffing here. I dont think flatting a cold 4 OOP in a SPR >2 is a good idea with hands like suited broadways or connectors, or whatever. On an A high board TT seems very close to the bottom of buzz's range, so we bluff with our 10c for equity/blockers and we're targeting garrett's JJ-KK. That all seems very reasonable to me
@dochmbi

This exactly. I'm having a very hard time coming up with worse hands Buzz could have here. Seems to me like KQs JTs should fold pre to 4bet, he shouldnt even be 3-betting that wide to begin with vs an early position opening. Hmm.

Garrett is right. Betting not his full stack makes this look and smell like such a bluff. And it makes any call from Garett easy, he only needs about 35% to call, and almost nothing changed from the turn - where he could have shoved more into a smaller pot on a flush draw - which looks like the Ace of clubs.
@tomwinstone6207

@ 9:00 is there not a point where bluffing all-in becomes readable in itself as a bluff, because you are trying to look like you are making the "big" move by going all-in (which is debatable in cash games where these guys are effectively bottomless bank rolls most of the time anyway) so actually making a value size bet becomes the better bluff size to look like you are trying to extract value. I understand it opens up more of their theoretical calling range, I guess it becomes quite stack size dependent between about 60-120% pot?
@fundiver198
@fundiver198 5 жыл бұрын
Sure. 60% pot is a completely normal bet size, but the closer you get to having a pot sized bet left, the more merit there can be in going for a small bet instead.

I find that with videos like this, there are no real lessons to be learned. Sure, in this case it didn't work out for this guy with this particular hand, but I can imagine that there are situations that you want to play like this. Acting nervous and not putting in all your chips can be a nice bait. Especially since the other guy was obviously looking for tells.

You literally just equated your level of knowledge with everyone else on the planet LOL.... There was plenty to be learned here, as "obvious" as this was to you, you really don't represent everybody else....

Buzz dug a nice big hole getting in far too deep with a weak hand. Any justification for him folding after the 4-bet pre-flop? Which is probably what I'd have done, as what are you beating?

Doug I like your videos but you need to fix the audio levels. Your voice is like 2x louder than the table. Don't edit with headphones they give a misleading impression of the dynamic range.

that guy with the QQs probably calls 6k and change shove just as well as the 4k that was bet on the river. I am unsure what the guy with 10s could have said to get the guy with the QQs to fold. I guess as a player you'd have to develop skills that go beyond actual poker. You have to give off the vibe of having a strong had, the mannerism have to be on par and you have to act a certain way where it subconsciously makes the other player actually believe he is beat.

It wasn’t Buzz’s talking alone that prompted Garrett to call the bluff. First, Buzz was so super slow in calling the 4-bet preflop. Second, Buzz completely unreacted to the flop, which is a strong sign that the flop missed him. Third, at NO time before his river bluff did Buzz glance at his or Garrett’s stack.

What do u mean he unreacted to the flop? What does that even mean? He's checking 100% of his range on that flop regardless of the cards.

Just don’t expect to use any upswing sales on renewals. They value new customers... existing customers not so much... this comes from personal experience... it’s funny, shortly after I had this negative experience I discovered the iPad option to record whatever you have on screen, say, a video... and for some reason I felt a lot better

Hey there, Captain Common Sense here, just stopping by to advise you not to leak the content of the course you paid for (and are now bitter about for some reason, apparently you didn't receive the amount of one on one face time with Doug you had hoped your purchase included?) as that would obviously be grounds for the type of aggressive litigation Doug would no doubt hammer you with, and something about the way you talk gives me the idea that you don't have "punitive damages" type money just laying around.
