The dress that Dovima dons in Avedon’s iconic image is itself reflective of a seismic moment in fashion history. Though labeled as a piece by Dior, the dress was the very first design made for the fashion house by another now-famous designer by the name of Yves Saint Laurent. The then-19-year-old designer had for the previous year been working with Christian Dior, but due to his lack of professional experience had been relegated to smaller design projects. The dress was among the initial sketches he was permitted to submit for the House of Dior’s couture collection, which ultimately led to more designs with each subsequent season. Laurent and Dior’s artistic sensibilities were remarkably similar, and at the age of 21-following Dior’s untimely death-Laurent found himself as head designer. Later, in 1961, he founded his own eponymous fashion house, however, his early designs for Dior remain an integral part of the brand’s heritage and DNA.❤

What is so interesting is I didn't know her name. I just remember how amazing her character was in Funny Face. It may not be seen in a positive light because, Marion, wasn't considered very intellectual. It was an extremely funny do to the fact that her voice didn't match her extremely sophisticated image.

I believe the voice she used (Marion, what are you reading? "Minute Men from Mars") was acting; her two scenes in Funny Face show her more than capable. Although the fact she was a real New Yorker may prove me otherwise…

The greatest photographic model ever, those models that went to the same agency later were/are nothing compared to her. Today style and elegance are not wanted, it seems to be all about ugliness - clothes are just rags, designers today do not want their clothes to be modelled with the elegance.

@@FashionQuestion The term super model is a title given with very little thought as to the meaning of the word, you look on google images for Christine Tidmarch - she flew all over the world to be the star of fashion shows, in old age a room full of people would part as she made her entrance. She was a super model.

To add to the Dior/Saint-Laurent story, I know first-hand that Pierre Bergé, Yves Saint-Laurent's partner in business and in life, claimed until the day he died that without Saint-Laurent, the house of Dior would never have survived, and that Yves never fully received the credit he deserved for this. I never understood why this remained such an issue for Bergé, as Saint-Laurent became an even more important fashion icon than Dior.
@FashionQuestion
@FashionQuestion 14 күн бұрын
Thanks for your opinion! Christian Dior is often credited with changing the course of post-war fashion and creating a new standard for luxury and femininity. Yves Saint Laurentis celebrated for his innovative spirit, ability to blend high fashion with everyday wear, and for paving the way for modern fashion's inclusivity and diversity. Ultimately, both designers were critical in their respective eras. Dior laid the groundwork for the rebirth of haute couture, while Saint Laurent modernized and expanded the scope of fashion, making it more accessible and diverse. Their importance depends on the specific aspects of fashion history one values most….To be honest,my heart with Dior❤️

Only two contemporary models could (timidly) stand by her side: Christy Turlington and Mariacarla Boscono. Even Gisele is to much comparing to her instinctive movements. Hi!❤️ Suzy Parker's sister was Dorian Leigh. Dorian Leigh was a pioneering American fashion model and one of the first supermodels. Born in 1917, she rose to prominence in the 1940s and 1950s, becoming a major figure in the fashion world. Leigh was known for her sophisticated and glamorous looks, appearing on numerous magazine covers and in advertising campaigns. Dorian Leigh and Suzy Parker were both highly successful models, with Parker following in her sister’s footsteps to also become a top model during the 1950s and 1960s. Despite the ten-year age gap between them, both sisters left a lasting impact on the fashion industry. Soon will be the video about her! Thanks for watching ❤️
