@@Whelo369 they did still get up to good speeds with their low weight though
@santos40047 ай бұрын
They had to lift the RB6's gearbox higher so it can have more air from the underfloor for the double diffuser, that's channeled the air out and exit right in front of the exhaust, accelerating the air even more and generating more downforce from the already strong double diffuser and the fast moving air also created a suction area over the exit of the normal diffuser and help suck the air out from the normal diffuser to generate even more downforce. It's a crazy car and if i'm not mistaken, 2018 was the one who can match the RB6 high speed cornering performance. They had to make the car bigger with more crazy wings and complex aero just to have the same high speed performance of the RB6, while RB6 is shorter and smaller with less complicated aero and wing. 2010 f1 cars are the perfect formula, it's fast in high speed corner and agile in low speed corner.

I had a university teacher who worked for the McLaren F1 team for 4 years, 2007-2010. He told us that Turkey's 4-apex corner is the most G-loaded corner ever to appear in the F1 calendar. So much so that teams had to design unique, extra strong pieces for the suspension, only used for this track, just because of this corner. Otherwise, taking the corner flat-out would break the ''regular'' suspension setup. Quite incredible to see Seb take it like nothing happened.

@ryanjonathanmartin39337 ай бұрын
@jurekgadzinowski2895 Vettel lost three probable wins through no fault of his own in 2010. Literally the first race of season in Bahrain, Vettel was leading comfortably and then all of sudden a freaking gearbox failure sends him down to 4th while Alonso leads a Ferrari 1-2. Australia, again leading comfortably from pole, before a brake failure throws him into the gravel. Then Korea, leading comfortably again from pole, and then an alternator failure hands Alonso a free win. The titles Vettel threw away were 2009 and probably 2018 as well (2017 also if we're stretching it). That's about it to be honest.
@sandalphoncpu7 ай бұрын
@@ryanjonathanmartin3933 I mostly agree with 2009, but Vettel would’ve lost the title in 2018 regardless if he didn’t make mistakes due to how dominant the Mercedes were after Monza. In fact, majority of the points were lost by Ferrari’s terrible strategies since Hungary, but people love to see the obvious and not question Ferrari’s questionable decisions throughout the season. 2017 Hamilton lost far more points with his mistakes than Vettel’s and the fact Bottas challenged Vettel for wins when Hamilton was P4 or lower was the prove of that. He was so consistent that if his PUs didn’t fail, he could still win the title despite the DNF in Singapore. Those who even thought of blaming Vettel for his lost in 2017 should see a psychologist. Blown diffuser is for 2011 RB7, this 2010 RB6 has the first iteration of flexible wings. And btw, there are still people who say RB didnt had the best car, by far, during 2010.
@fubar43457 ай бұрын
No, all of the 2010-2013 RBR cars had blown diffusers.

Honestly the way that thing took T11-12 at Melbourne was plain dirty. No slide, no hesitation or wobble, just instant on-rails cornering

WOW! I was scared just viewing it! And look at how bumpy the ride is for the driver. Bouncing around like that ANNNNND judging your braking points and turning points is just incredible. How do they do it?

did this car essentially have ground effect? Do current ground effect cars have more downforce/high speed grip or no?

In my opinion it is a proof that Renault engine was awful, if RB had Ferrari/Mercedes engine they should be WDC/WCC around Singapore. Alonso without that much grip could handle battle to last race

No, V8 engine Was fixed😅.
@RANDOMZBOSSMAN17 ай бұрын
Nah the Renault V8 engine was a good engine it had the best fuel economy and had the best drivability and was fantastic in its ability to be mapped for utilizing the blown diffuser perfectly
@adamclones337 ай бұрын
it was perfect because renault has fully supported redbull in that time

I know these older cars were a lot quicker to begin with but it's insane how much we lost the feel of speed in current-day F1 footage.

That's because the frame rates on the video cameras have improved since 2010. If the 2010 cars were filmed using today's cameras they'd look slow on the onboards as well.
@armanromana15807 ай бұрын
@@ryanjonathanmartin3933its cause the cars are smaller. the frame rate is the same at 50 fps. i dont get how people just spread misinformation so confidently

@@armanromana1580Yes this is correct. I don't think the cameras today have any special stabilizers or anything because those add weight. It's just that the cars are way bigger and heavier. No surprise that they don't look so edgy
