My wife and I live in Port Charlotte and we just went to Sanford for our anniversary Aug 16. We're amazed at the old, quaint,and charming Sanford is. We will rebuild here, and I bet Sanford will be better in no time.

Lake Monroe in Sanford is fresh water.

Not at all. It is rain water. Sanford is 40 miles inland, far from salt water.

It is incredible how the water is slowly receading two weeks after a hurricane. Hopefully, the Everglades will get a thorough cleaning with so much water draining through the state.

It actually slowly rose after the hurricane, it's only now starting to recede - it'll be another 4-6 weeks before it's back to normal. The St. Johns River flows north from here, so it'll exit in Jacksonville.

I work in Sanford and it was horrific, but thankfully things have receded and dried out. Hopefully this will wake up our politicians into building more locks and flood controls in the surrounding rivers and lakes. I know alot of boat owners have pushed against it, but we now can see what can happen when we get tons of water dumped into upstream bodies of water.

So I have friends that lived in Sanford (Now live in DeBary) and worked at the German restaurant in Sanford..Such a cute little town! Anyway, I'm looking at a map and I'm curious how did you end up in that lake from out in the Gulf or Atlantic? Am I missing something on the map of a waterway like the Intercoastal?? Hope you all are well!! I live in Tampa area myself..quietly followed you guys back to the old bus days!!

The St Johns River connects from Sanford to Jacksonville. It is an absolutely beautiful river cruise.
