Downwind Boards for Wingfoiling: Amos Shapes Sultan Wing and Sultan DW Review | Hydrofoil Academy |
Welcome to our in depth review of the Amos Sultan Wing Board. In this video we also discuss the use of downwind boards for light wind winging.
We look at the build; focusing on the board's lightweight materials which enables smooth liftoffs and controlled landings, while the tapered outline enhances maneuverability and responsiveness in turbulent waters.
To evaluate the Amos Sultan's performance on the water, we take it through a series of light wind runs, capturing footage of how it handles different wind and wave conditions. The board's design excels in powering through choppy and flat waters, delivering an exhilarating ride for experienced wingfoilers.
We then discuss the board's stability during takeoff and while riding the waves. Thanks to its thoughtful design, the Amos Sultan instills confidence in riders of all skill levels, making it an excellent choice for both intermediate and advanced wingfoilers.
Comfort is key during extended wingfoiling sessions, and we assess the ergonomics of the Amos Sultan board. Its deck padding and foot strap placement contribute to a comfortable and secure ride, ensuring you can focus on maximizing your performance without distractions.
As we conclude our review, we share our final thoughts on the Amos Sultan Downwind Foil Board. Its impressive design, durability, and versatility make it a top contender for wingfoilers looking to conquer light wind conditions and elevate their wingfoiling experience.

Just got off the water, first ride on my new 100L downwind board. I’ve been learning on 105L Quatro wing drifter. Wing day number 13, and I was riding in 10kn this evening. I’m a true believer in the downwind boards for wing. I rode out my first gybe tonight. I’m on inland lakes and my 100L downwind will give me so many more days on foil. So glad I pulled the trigger on it.

Hi, I've got the same 105 Quatro. Looking at DWs. The Quatro takes a lot of work under 15knts, as you know. Just curious, which DW did you get? And a few other details: your size/weight, foil used, Wing used. Cheers!

I'm 155lb. For light wind riding I currently use slingshot hoverglide infinity 99, big low aspect with tons of lift for easy starts. Turns slow and rides a little like a tank but good lift in light wind. I also use the quantum 100 but currently enjoying the low stall speed of the infinity 99 to escape through lulls on those light wind days. DW board I went with is the 100L KT Ginxu Dragonfly, love it. Only dagger board I've been on but stable enough to balance on to get going. 1-2 pumps and up on foil in light wind I never dreamed of being on the water in the past. less kite foil days now and way more wing.

Sorry, for wing I have a 5.5m f-one strike v2 and 7m f-one strike CWC. If I’m using DW board and big front wing I am able to downsize to the 5.5m wing. With more time on water, I’m hoping to be able to downsize even more for active ride. Big gear has helped compensate for lack of skills especially with light wind. If it’s cranking, I still prefer kite twin tip.

Hi Dominic, this video is quite old so I hope you see this comment as I wanted some advice please. I am getting close to my Amos Sultan Wing entering production (ordered October...) and so need to do a final confirm on the size. I learnt on a 95l Naish Hover and use this in winter on light days currently because I can stand on it and lift the wing without any wind at all so good for getting home when light wind becomes very light wind. My day to day is an 82l though (I weigh 77kg) and TBH I can almost do the same with that now but with more wobble. I had initially thought to go to 95 on the Sultan Wing but seeing your video I am thinking that the 85l will still get me home when the wind drops but will be much more fun generally. For reference my current preference is to size up my wing in light winds so I can use higher aspect smaller foils and still have some speed. I'm hoping the Sultan Wing will assist that. So... what do suggest sufficient please 85 or 95 for back up volume... Many thanks

Have you downwinded the 80L board with your foil assist yet? If so do you prefer that over the bigger board? I have a 5'10 105L Fanatic DW board using foil drive to get onto swells. Have been considering going longer and narrower but ti be honest i think the shorter board is better with an assist. So id be keen to know which board you prefer with assisted DW i.e using no sail.

The foil mast is a bloody big stabiliser. The narrow one might be OK for beginners.

Hi thanks for this review. What size would you recommend as a Sultan wing considering my weight? I am 70kg. It seems that the 5.5 is short vs. the 5.10? What would be your thoughts? Thank you

Hi - i am 95 kg - isn‘t the 95L board to small ? Is the 95 L the largest board of the Sultan Wing ?
@bryanhall9996
@bryanhall9996 10 ай бұрын
I'm 85kg plus gear and am on a 83l and am fine. More liters does help, but the length gives you so much... more testing across the industry is needed. I've tested an 83l 4'8"x26" and hated it. An 83l 5'3"x22" and am happy with it. One month out on my custom 6'3"x20" 83l and am hoping to be super stoked on it.

Yes, in this range that is the largest they do. I've asked this question to Amos and he said the standard DW board at 110 would be the one to go with.
