Hey Fellas in this DOYLE BRAMHALL II - LICK LESSON i dive straight in off the cuff and pour a bag full of licks out for you to digest!
This is just a compilation of licks i have picked up from watching him mixed with my personal thoughts towards his tone and approach to playing.
If you stick to the end you'll hear what im using to squeeze a full board of tones out!
I hope you enjoy this one and get to take something away.
I have started up a tip jar as such to help push the channel and to help me, a patreon page is coming soon but in all honesty i put everything into these videos i couldn't see how i could make a patreon page any different? ill look into this though.
If you guys are in a place where you feel you could tip and a HUGE thank you to those who have already you can donate to
Fretjunkiestv@gmail.com I SINCERELY APPRECIATE IT .
Thanks for watching and i hope this helps for those who have asked.

How long till the awen Fuzz is released? I can't wait to get my hands on my own unit.... Preorders soon?

re: the zonks, also, check out the DAM zoot unit for strict zonk tones like the BG Harding. I believe the smaller acid fuzz zoink differs from the larger zoink in that the smaller one is supposed to clean up better. But I have also noticed that they sound different. Ironically, the small ones are the only attainable ones by Acid Fuzz, and they aint cheap. ps-I saw Doyle in los angeles for the only usa "shades" release show before he went to europe, and he only had the smaller acid fuzz pedal with him...and he wasn't getting 'hands up' tones. Still sounded amazing of course....was a mind blowing show. But I never heard the sputtery zonk thing all night long. @fret junkies your playing is sick. I agree, you gotta put your entire spirit into the tone....fully commit all the good and bad.

Hi Craig , thanks for the comment ! I recently acquired a Zoink and if I’m honest was a little disappointed , 100 percent not as spluttery and Gatey as I had hoped , the BG is much more accommodating ! If you like that kind of vibe check out the AWEN fuzz I am releasing in collaboration with Venus witch fx . No sale push here as the tone is not for everyone and only certain players will understand it , but yeah it’s born from my hunt for that ‘ hands up ‘ tone ! There’s a short clip on my channel . Thanks for stopping by ⚡️⚡️

Love your videos. Cool to see a DBII lick lesson! To clarify, all of our ZOINK MACHINES are tuned exactly like Doyle's ZOINK. The first Zonk Machine I built for Doyle was an exact clone of an original 60's Zonk, which is more gated and does not clean up much when you roll off the guitar volume. That's the pedal you hear on the Rich Man album. The "Zoink" came later as a request from Doyle for a smaller pedalboard friendly live/touring version. I think that's where the confusion comes from? The Zoink has better cleanup when rolling off your guitar's volume and has a more usable range from the "FUZZ" control at various ambient temperatures than his larger Zonk. Building a very gated Zonk is much easier to do, but makes it more of a one trick pony that may not work at all in a live situation if the temperature is too extreme. Tuning the Zonk circuit to clean up when rolling off your guitar volume rather than completely gate out (especially in a cold room), and perform well overall in a wider range of ambient temperatures, is a much more difficult task and requires a LOT more transistor selection. Hence the price. After initial gain and leakage testing and sorting I typically go through at least 20-30 NOS germanium transistors audited in the circuit before I can settle on one Zoink transistor set. If someone wants a more gated Zoink like Doyle's bigger original style enclosure model I can do that as well, but it has to be requested as a custom order and noted as a custom tuning directly on the enclosure and packaging. That way if the pedal is sold second hand to someone expecting the sound and performance of a typical Zoink they don't contact us for repair thinking there's something wrong with it. The Zonk circuit is much more temperature sensitive than most other fuzz circuits utilizing germanium transistors. If you dig gated Zonks more, which is cool, the hybrid Ge/Si model I built for Zapata from Gary Clark Jr Band is ~ that sound, perhaps a bit more gated than Doyle's big box all germanium Zonk. It's a bit more temperature stable due to one transistor being silicon. Incidentally, at a room temperature of about 60-65°F the original 1960's hybrid Zonk I cloned from would barely work at all. At ~68-72° the "FUZZ" control only worked through ~2/3 of it's travel. As Jimi Hendrix said "I've been imitated so well I've heard people copy my mistakes". I did not copy the mistake of the original hybrid when I cloned it. I tuned it so you can actually use the "Fuzz" control throughout it's full travel. Cheers from USA!

I should also mention; I wrote my last comment quite hastily. Doyle played his es335 for most of the show, although he did play that blonde Strat he sometimes uses for the last 6 songs. Great info in this thread.
@CraigPaddockmusic
@CraigPaddockmusic 3 жыл бұрын
also, he had a two rock amp. I think that the strat into the late sixties pro reverb he was using on 'rich man' with the zonk are all a part of getting the hands up tone...that's all I was trying to say. Anyhoot, I can't really speak with hands on experience to this all that much. (I've only played one zonk, the D*A*M unit)...., but I will just comment that I think it's fascinating how all of these units are so temperamental and sensitive to weather and stuff. And also just that because they have so few components in the circuit, every little thing matters.... I can definitely imagine scenarios where the old zonk pedal would just not work in live settings. Even with the D*A*M pedal I still own, I must say that I find it hard to get the same use out of it on a consistent basis. It always sounds good, but some days it just sounds glorious. peace

@@FretJunkies as I thought then... Very weird, in a lot of other videos the octave-thing isn't all that apparent. In all of your videos though, it's always there. Can't wait to get my bgh zonk 😀
