DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood

DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood

9 жыл бұрын

Bill Nighy has become one of those actors who lights up the screen every time you see him, but still is not a household name in the U.S., in spite of being in such smash hits as Pirates of the Caribbean. He has a role in Pride, the Matthew Warchus feature about how a group of young gay activists helped change the world by fighting to support a union that wasn't quite ready to accept them. The great and modest Nighy talked to David Poland at TIFF.
Shot in Toronto, September 2014

Don’t you just love Bill Nighy? My father was a miner, died at 63 from a year pit related illness. I marched with them in the 80s when my Da was fighting for the right to go down a black hole. Had a great grandfather that died in a pit collapse in Fallin Pit. I seen my fathers face bust and bruised from police and horses at Orgreave. Two communities coming together in solidarity and the miners being instrumental in the LGBT being able to get married these days. Two of the best people in my life are my beautiful Da and my beautiful Gay son. Could I be any prouder? ❤️

He is so classy and humble. The thing I love most, which I think speaks volumes about him, is how highly he speaks of those he's worked with.

Without doubt the most unpretentious actor I have ever seen interview which ALL other actors should take note. Recently watch the triple of Page Eight where he plays the spy Johnny Worricker and he was outstanding, he can say so much with just a small change in his body and no matter the words he speaks he gives them such meaning and worth. He now has taken the mantle over from Laurence Olivia saying to 'method actor' Dustin Hoffman in Marathon Man who spent hours running to get into character "Try acting, dear boy". Bill does a similar story about a young actor telling him he had lost his 'feelings' for the role due to his drama teacher telling him, he could not see his feelings. Bill tells him, his teacher needs an excuse to make out they are teaching, and he tells the young actor, "Learn and trust the lines, every thing you need is the lines, it is called acting" He also unlike so many 'lovies' like the worse Christopher Bale believes in being polite, respectful and kind to every one be they actors or fans. Hope he is around for a long time and become a 'statesman' of what acting and what an actor should be.

I've got a good idea for children in need. Peter Sellars took the Beatles song "A hard days night" and recited the words over some music like it was Shakespeare. You could take the words from the Jefferson Airplane song "The Ballad of the Chrome nun." and do the same thing it would go viral.

Watch the making of from Pirates of the caribbean and him acting as Davy Jones in his mocap suit, he made up all of the characters little quirks and mannerisms himself, if thats not acting then I dont know what is.

Also as he played Viktor...it can't be possible that he delivered Viktor's lines as himself because Viktor is often cruel, impulsive and sometimes even aggressive. All characteristics that Bill doesn't have
