A little context on the call: Andres Cantor is from Argentina and it was his last time calling the world cup as he said this would be his last one. Imagine going out like that on your final game calling world cup matches and your home country winning it? That's a dream ending to a spectacular career from Andres.

The best thing about soccer is NO COMMERCIALS during each half of play! Contrast that with an NFL game where the actual action during a game is about 35 minutes and the rest of the time they are hanging around either having a commercial break or time out.

I cried and I don’t even watch soccer. The passion, the joy, the love. It’s what we love about sports.

With the WC and the Olympics being hosted in our country, I plan to take my family to them. I missed out on the 84 Olympics. I don’t want to miss these events.

It's not "just soccer". In Argentina, Futbol is the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NCAA rolled into one. Argentina has the most passionate fan base of all. They roll hard for their squads. Even a small team in the third division has an atmosphere that you'd never see in American sports. It's insane. Not just in football but life. Do yourself a favor and search "Argentina Crowd" and listen to musicians talk about how hype an Argentine crowd is.

I think it's absolutely wonderful that Cantor got that emotional. It's a BIG deal to the rest of the world. Americans are so wrapped up in "nothing that isn't from here can be any good" that they can't appreciate or enjoy anyone else's joy.

Can we get Rebecca on the show this week to discuss the World Cup some more. She’s always a great guest and would love to get her takes and reaction to one of the best soccer matches we’ve seen

A world cup is difficult to describe, I've seen grown man that didn't cry at any special events in their lives, weddings, funerals, child births, etc, cry at their country winning the world cup. This guys become almost godlike to the masses of that country

If the USA ever manages to get to the final of a World Cup the general dismissiveness of the sport (that these dudes are spitting, for instance) will absolutely melt away and become genuine tears. I love American sports but International Futbol is just different. I can't really explain the humanistic tension OR the inhumanity of certain decisions. It's just different. Hopefully, one day, America will get to engage the rest of the planet on that emotional level.
