He will still make a lot of money, but thats not the point. He gave Argentina a World Cup after 36 long and painful years. At this point, he just wants to be happy with his family.

The lifestyle and culture of Miami vs Saudi was also a factor. Messi’s wife didn’t want to live and raise their kids for three years over there. Also, Spanish is his language, and Miami has a huge Spanish speaking population. In Saudi he would have to deal with the language barrier which he already mentioned was a struggle that he had playing in France, and he didn’t want to have to go through that again

@@user-ju6mj8kx3y The $600M net worth is such a low estimate for Messi. His last contract with Barcelona was 4 years $674 million (before taxes though), still you add all his endorsements and lifetime contract with Adidas (potentially worth $1 billion), I believe his career earnings pre-taxes go way beyond the $1.2 billion Forbes estimated recently. He’s got way more money than people think.

Miami is a fun place to live with his family and relatively safe. But I think most importantly is the Messi brand with Adidas. His goal is to grow his brand as Jordan did with Nike. What better place to do it than in the US, and trying to finally make Football really relevant over there, conquering US market? So he'll try to make his brand and influence everlasting and that tops whatever the saudis are offering him.

theres no way he will regret it, he is one of the most rich athletes ever, he will still get money in the US. Plus although saudi arabia offered more money, you are asking for his family, his kids to go to a new culture, where their are traditions and religion in place, and also they dont know the language. It would be a big lifestyle change. Now in the US, he can send his kids to good schools, her wife will keep her lifestyle, and although they dont know english they are in miami, where they speak spanish everywhere. I think htats the reason he preferred the US over saudi arabia.

Yeah strictly in a numerical sense, 1.6 billion is a hell of a lot more than 600 million. But in terms of quality of life, generational wealth for your kids, etc. it literally makes no material difference. It's just hoarding at that point. No one will ever *need* that much money.

All of UK: "hey, you're finally talking about football". Regarding Messi, as you mention, he's arguably the GOAT, not only because of his incredible skill and accomplishments, but because there's really not much material for haters. The only other comparable player is Pelé, RIP. And guess where Pelé finished his career, in the US of A with the New York Cosmos. Miami is also practically a Latin American city where he will enjoy a Spanish-speaking crowd, very happy to have him there. Argentina is also a shorter flight away and his family will feel very comfortable (perhaps as much or even more than in Spain). And finally, equity is not something to brush away, considering how much USA sports teams are increasing in value. Good for him.

He's prioritized the thought of where he's moving his family. He was only considering 1 EU team for that reason. The thing about the Saudi deal would've been moving his family there for the next 3 years. He'd be trying to raise his kids in a place where they be influenced by all these affluenza stricken kids/families. It'd be a problem in EU or USA, but SA would've been another level. Imagine teaching your kids empathy or any kind of values in an environment like that.

Look at the bigger picture! Messi has everything for himself and his great grandchildren. He is humble and why would he need any more? What good is all that money from Saudi to be imprisoned in a very very strange culture? He would be in a bubble for 3,4 years. He's not into the limelight like Ronaldo but he does like having his friends around. In Miami he has many friends including Kun Aguero. Plus the money he is getting in Miami, will make him more money...Saudi money is nothing if you're not going to be happy.
