The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT stands as the most potent version of the Taycan series that Porsche has ever introduced. When utilizing its overboost feature for 10 seconds, it even surpasses all other Porsches in terms of power. With a baseline of 777 horsepower and torque reaching 988 pound-feet, it escalates to an astonishing 1,092 horsepower when switched to the newly introduced Attack Mode.
This Attack Mode, akin to the push-to-pass feature seen in other Taycan variants, provides a significant power boost for brief periods. However, it goes beyond by offering up to 120 kilowatts to all four wheels, a substantial increase from the 70 kilowatts provided by push-to-pass. Activation is straightforward, requiring just a pull on the right paddle shifter, though it's recommended mainly for track use.
The Turbo GT's launch control is another highlight, unlocking the full potential of 1,092 horsepower for a swift two seconds. This feature propels the car to 60 mph in just 2.2 seconds, or an even quicker 2.1 seconds with the inclusion of the lightweight Weissach track package, marking it the first four-door Porsche to offer this option. This is a slight edge over the Taycan Turbo S, with the Turbo GT taking 6.6 seconds to hit 124 mph, reduced to 6.4 seconds with the Weissach package. Its maximum track speed is an impressive 180 mph, or 190 mph with the Weissach package.
A key component behind this speed increase is a pulse inverter employing silicon carbide, enhancing the power to the rear motor. This, coupled with a new motor on the rear axle found in the updated Taycan lineup, results in a boost in power and efficiency, packaged more lightly than before. The Turbo GT, especially with the Weissach package, sees a reduction in weight by up to 157 pounds compared to the Turbo S.
Efforts to minimize weight include using carbon fiber for various parts, lightweighting the luggage compartment, and removing several features like soft-closing doors and the analog clock from the Sport Chrono package. It also boasts carbon-ceramic brakes and 21-inch forged wheels, further lightening the load, all as standard on the Turbo GT. The Weissach package goes even further by eliminating the rear seats for a carbon fiber storage shelf.
Enhancements extend to the car's suspension and aerodynamics, with specific tuning for the Turbo GT and new aerodynamic features like a front spoiler and a unique rear wing part of the Weissach package, contributing to up to 485 pounds of downforce.
Inside, the Turbo GT emphasizes Race-tex leather, with the option for carbon-fiber bucket seats in Europe-a feature not available in the US due to crash regulations. Instead, US models come with Porsche's adaptive Sports Seats Plus as standard, including 18-way electric adjustment and a memory feature.
The Taycan Turbo GT has quickly proven itself as the most track-focused Taycan yet, holding records at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the Nurburgring. However, such top-tier performance and features set the starting price at $231,995, with the Weissach package offered at no additional cost. Orders are currently open, with deliveries to US dealers expected this summer.
