Even with a bigger budget that can be a great option. I got my G9 like a year after release in pristine quality (with shutter count of like 2000). It was like 400€ cheaper than a new Body but it also included the battery grip and a 2nd battery. Not sure if I would've spend the ridiculous price Panasonic charges for the grip on it's own, but shooting with long lenses like the 200mm 2.8 I really appreciate it. So realistically I saved somewhere between 400-700€ by buying used with basically no real disadvantage.

If it’s for photo a used RP with the RF 50mm f1.8 is a good deal. And if you can get the RP for $700 you can get the adapter for $100 and get a $200 EF lens like a 24-85 ($100 lens actually) and a nifty fifty. Or change the 24-85 for a 20-35 f3.4-4.5. Or for APS-C, maybe an used M50 for less than $500 and get some nice lenses with the additional $500. You could adapt a 17-55 f2.8 or if found for cheap the 18-35 f1.8 used. Or buy a native 32mm f1.4 or one of the sigma 56mm f1.4. Cameras, especially mirrorless are super reliable. Buying used is a great way to soften the economical blow.

For lenses, I went with TTArtisan's 50mm f1.2 and 35mm f1.4, since I like shooting manual and did not want to be restricted with a single lens. Also a hand grip, wrist strap, shutter button, and 2 32gb memory cards. Great inspiration device to get me out and taking photos.

I’m stuck between those two cameras right now. How is the video on the x-s10?
@Osukaroni
@Osukaroni 3 жыл бұрын
@@williamwalters3796 I'm not the original commenter, but I hope I can help nonetheless. Video on the X-S10 is absolutely killer for the price. You get IBIS, 4K30, Fuji's amazing Eterna profile (considered to be one of the best, if not the best, color profiles for video color reproduction), fast sensor readout for low rolling shutter (the X-S10 kills the Z50 in this regard), a fully-articulating screen, and even a tally lamp, because why not. If you haven't yet, I'd recommend watching DPReview's X-S10 video, especially Jordan's segment. Personally, I'd say it's the second best jack of all trades video package for under $2000, behind the X-T4, which is 70% more expensive. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Fuji has a far better APS-C lens ecosystem. That's probably the Z50's biggest weak point. Nikon hasn't bothered releasing any mirrorless APS-C lenses since it first launched (they only have two!). In stark contrast, Fuji releases 3 to 6 APS-C lenses alone each year.

@@Osukaroni hey thanks for the comparison 😁 Since I asked about the X-S10 I’ve watched every video youtube has recommended me about it, and decided to go with the X-S10, mainly because IBIS and the video colors compared to Nikon which only has 8 bit variable bitrate stuff and no external 10 bit option.

@@des4719 the 'influencers' weren't getting trips to Hawaii, Grand Canyon, flown around the world to events when new cameras were released. So, they have to "pander" to them. For them, it's business and a money maker. A lot of them change brands like I change socks. Well, almost. And they just about unanimously pan anything M43. They pull out their magnifying glasses, blow up images 1000% to prove their point on the inferiority of M43. The top selling lens mount in Japan? M43. I think some extra credit goes to Jordan for being able to make the Pentax video usable with lights an audio. Also having done the "budget video kit" myself out of necessity I found that good audio will make or break your footage, and in camera mics will never be enough so both cameras chosen lose if a breeze comes along. You need to budget lower so you can throw in an audio solution to pair with your camera (like Jordan did with a second lens for low light).

Have to say for probably 99% of the viewing public (including myself) the video from the Pentax was perfectly fine. I was watching on a 55" 4k tv and it looked great to me. As for a camera under 1k USD I would go with the Canon M6 MKII.

For a bit over 1000 dollars, I have a nikon d300, a nikon d3500, a soligor 35-200, a Tamron 28-80, a nikon 35mm 1.8, a yongnuo 50mm 1.8, and a Tamron 70-300. All bought used from reputable sellers, and some from a friend. Not to mention a full sized tripod, small camera bag, a battery grip, SD cards, batteries, and a reflector/diffuser And that's why idk if I'll ever buy anything new

I got myself a Sony A6400 with a sigma 56mm f1.4 prime lens and its been over a year now. I particularly chose Sony APSC system since it has awesome lenses from Sigma and Tamron as well as some from Sony. I don't think you need to worry about the lens for your specific requirement if you go for sony APSC. The sigma primes 16,30,56 and the sigma 18-50 F2.8, Tamron 17-70 f2.8 the sony 11mm f1.8 Sony 70-350 all cater to a wide variety of needs. Hoping to see much more reveals. Besides sony works well for both photo and video. If on a tighter budget I would choose the A6100 as the body as its pretty much equivalent to the A6400

I would buy the first open-box X-S10 XF18-55 kit that popped up if I wanted to maximize features. However, I bought an open-box, zero shots on the clock, X-E3 XF18-55 kit for $599 2 months ago and it would absolutely be my top recommendation for anyone buying either their first camera or a second camera to compliment their main rig. I also bought an X-S10 body-only when that launched, and I already have an X-T4 and a Fuji’s 1.4 Prime trio for work, but I picked up the XF27 on closeout for $250 when the gen 2 launched and an XC15-45 for $170 used from mbp and those two lenses and my X-E3 are what I reach for 90% of the time now. It makes for such a lightweight and pocketable kit and the photo AND video results are nothing short of fantastic. I can even fit that trio along with my DJI RSC 2 into a shoulder sling and be ready for anything while traveling incredibly light.

The XT30 is smart choice. Its the same sensor as the higher model, just less features but also smaller. I bought the same kit for around 800+ after tax totally worth it, if you have other lens from Fuji. It is pretty much a X100V with slight difference.

Olympus passes on the qualities of its previous generation to the next iteration of the model below it. the M-1 III is a small M-1X, the M-5 III is a less expensive M-1 II, and the M-10 IV is an M-5 II without weather sealing. I have an M-5 III and an M-10 III. What I love about the latter is the quick Advanced Photo options. I use Live Time frequently for photos of the Aurora Borealis. I can watch the image build up on the LCD screen and decide when to close the shutter. I also use the High Dynamic Range setting, which takes 4 quick photos and combines them in camera. Olympus IBIS (in body image stabilization) is fantastic, so I can do HDR hand held.

I'd be interested too but buying used is so time/situation/geography dependent the $1000 limit is almost meaningless. I could see it working if they use a major used equipment vendor that offers a warranty such as keh; at least then other folks could use the information to buy the same kit..... But given dpreview is an amazon property there would be little incentive for them to do it even if it has more "real world" relevance.

All good choices, but personally I would buy used for a budget of $800 CAD (including lens): Used Sony a6100 + 18-55mm kit lens = $800 CAD or $600 USD. Or used GH4 + kit lens for $650 CAD or $500 USD.

Bought a used panasonic gx80 body recently for 200€ and the 25mm f1,7 for 120€ used as a small 4k capable everyday carry and mountain bike tours and it's up there with best bang for my money I've ever spend on camera gear. Love my Sony a7 but this small cheap package with killer ibis for a price that's under even an RX100 mk4 used is rock solid. I'll add the small 35-100 f4-5,6 into the mix and got a nice almost pocketable great stabilized 4k video camera for under 500€ with both lenses. Got me back into micro four thirds after I sold my G7 two years ago.

Is either choice a good LONG-term pick? Perhaps. $1000 was also my budget 2yrs ago when I decided to have another try with photography after 30yrs... not knowing if I would stick with it this time. $1000 seemed like enough cash to buy a GOOD camera but not too much to lose if I lost interest and had to sell. My final decision was which model/brand I could grow with over a long time period IF, it turned out, I really enjoyed shooting. I felt Sony and Canon were the most innovative/feature-rich and would also be around for many years to come. I chose the Sony A6400 that Chris quickly glanced over. Was the best bang-for-the-buck at the time and I thought that the LARGE number of lens choices for native e-mount (and great 3rd party glass) would allow me to grow with camera in many directions. Now, in 2021, I would gladly make the same choice. :)

Go used and get an E-M1 II plus a lens or two. Or maybe an E-M5 III for the weather sealing among other goodies over the E-M10 IV. I personally love the G9, but I have a feeling some solid used E-M1 III might start popping up for a good price. As for APS-C the Fuji X-H1 has IBIS and is just better in a lot of ways than the X-T30 IMO. Sure you're at 24mp instead of 26mp, but that doesn't really matter tbh for what you gain. If you're willing to save, you can get a Nikon Z5 body for pretty cheap, find an FtoZ adapter, then take advantage of the cheap F mount lenses while saving for a few Z mounts. If you go that route then the Z50 isn't a bad pick for APS-C to share lenses/adapters even if they're cropped.
