Peter purposely did not want to spray the operating Jacob's Ladder device with CO2, because of the potential risk involving high voltage (despite CO2 being approved for use on live electrical equipment). The CO2 extinguisher used was manufactured back in the 1960's, and we didn't know if any design improvements regarding electrical conductivity have been incorporated since then.
