I went to my doctor for an annual physical and, as we were finishing up, he went through a series of questions about my general well-being and I happened to mention that I was feeling really tired at work. He immediately diagnosed it as depression and prescribed an antidepressant. This was before COVID so I still trusted the medical profession and said, "Ok. If the doctor says so, it must be true." I took that drug for maybe six months at most and decided one day to question the logic of: TIRED = DEPRESSION. That seemed like a giant leap of nonsense. So, I decided to stop taking this drug. It was extremely difficult. I won't go into what it felt like but just to say I could not believe the negative effects of coming off this drug. I later found out this doctor expected me to take that drug for the rest of my life. Today, in my mind, that doctor is a quack, no more worthy of trust than a street vendor of some magical elixir said to give you infinite energy.

My daughter wean herself off of an SSRI and it was extremely hard because they wanted her to go off faster than you really should. She had to go back on it and then wean herself off as very slowly because if you go off to fast it'll make you crazy She's now off of it having to confront her anxiety on her own which I believe is making her be a stronger person. Sometimes I see where she doesn't want to be strong because it takes work but she's doing it. Self-introspection is so extremely valuable, as a person with bipolar disorder who hates being on medication I rely on self-introspection to deal with life challenges rather than more medication.

You must be so proud of her. She did great. Maybe she could help herself with essential oils to feel better. It is just smelling, not eating those oils. Not the artificial scents from chemicals that give us a headache and allergies. Please buy them good essential oils for yourself. Just some drops of essential orange and essential rosemary in a cup of hot water is good for concentration. Just smell the scent in the room. For relaxing there is lavender and other flowery scents. Everybody can find some personal oils to lift up their spirits. Maybe try Dr Bach rescue remedy for help in difficult times. Google it. Of course it doesn't substitute a big hug in difficult times but it may help to get over the first hours after a bad event. Your daughter needs to note a calendar for her menstruation cycles. Some moods swings are just hormones. She will find out at what time she feels bad. Mostly it is the three days before period is there. Hormones can drive everybody crazy. The contraceptive pill is a very dangerous hormone combination and causes severe mood changes in lots of girls and women. Your daughter might have a lack of vitamins to balance out those hormones. Omega 3 oil, vitamin D with K2 and Selenium are very important. Vitamin B group is very important as well. So many mental issues could be solved very easily. Just eat healthy oils and healthy fish. Eat as little sugar as possible. They did studies and even aggression in prisons got better for thirty percent when the inmates had healthy oils in their food every day. Just eat Omega 3 and vitamin D. . Some girls get depressed because they eat lunch and dinner without fat and oil. Horrible mistake. Our brains need good oil for nutrition and we just need oil and vitamins for our health. All the best for you and your daughter

Panic Attacks is exactly the reason I was on & off of ssri's since Zoloft was brand new. Getting off sux. I was somehow able to tell myself before I stopped, that no matter how bad i felt, it was only temporary until my body learns to produce the correct amounts again. Been about 3 - 4 years without drugs, or panic, or anxiety at all. I had gone close to 10 years without either before. And out of nowhere, (from my perspective) the attacks came back. When that starts happening, it happens 2 to 7? times a week, and I cannot function, and any help, kind people offer makes it worse, because we're now talking about it, and forgetting that I have them, is where the peace is at. I Will take anything there is the will make it stop.

Discussions are important, but evidence is crucial. Being in mental heath for over 25 years, I've observed that most widely accepted psychological and psychiatric approaches fall short more often than not. One problem (among many) is that research is often quite shoddy in these areas. I don't mean outright malevolent manipulation of data, but there appears to be manipulation of the questions asked, the parameters within which the research is conducted. Counter assertions can be made, but without significant change in how research is conducted and reviewed, assertions without evidence they remain.

My antidote: ADHD Meds are the ‘Blue Pills’- creative, smart athlete until college, then finally settled into a creative discipline (industrial design), a field/study that has changing projects/brainstorming/questioning. Made it to my terminal limit with a Master’s degree and went to work. First year all good, second year my boss pulls me aside and says, “you have to stop interrupting in meetings and ‘others’ are being effected. This is how I had always been, went to doc, was diagnosed adult ADHD… What I had was a creative mind that didn’t fit the Matrix. Spent 10 years on meds being a robot workaholic, lost a girlfriend of 6 years because I thought “ I was doing what we needed to get ahead, instead of just being with her”. 🤔🤙🏼 It took 3.5 years to completely get off meds, only was able to when I left my career to start a small plant nursery. 😊 I’m able to freelance and have peace, but I will never be a “manufactured billionaire”. Ironically, my experience is manufacturing.

The other sinister aspect of this Pharma scam is something unique to the US. We have no NHS, so if you loose/change jobs you will loose/lapse you access the therapy and medication. I had no physical addiction to the meds (took weekends off usually, if not working) luckily…however way more addictive things like benzos/SSRI’s I hear can kill you if abruptly quit. This is way more dire/gross situation for those folks in my opinion. *Just wanted to add that if anyone from other countries may read!

@@brandonb5075 - We all need to know the EMBEZZLING SCAM that the corrupt sociopaths in power have been doing, and which also enriches Pharma (and vax companies, and more). It is my stance now that almost every billionaire became that rich with the help of this massive embezzling scam. Since you have a creative mind, I hope you will read the info and overview below, and will help share and EXPOSE the embezzling scam so we can end the reign of inhumane greedy sociopaths who are totally derelict in their duty and unfit to govern. US corrupt sociopaths have been taking over countries since at least WW2 so they could EMBEZZLE from more and more governments. They took over the UK, Australia, Canada and NZ in the 70s-80s. Wars are not always needed, threats and coups are often done - the CIA helped oust PM Gough Whitlam in 1975, who obviously said NO to their corruption plans - and even election rigging (for example, Macron in France). The corrupt liars know that government money IS NOT OUR TAXES, and that we have no actual "national debt", etc, but they lie to us endlessly to keep us duped about their massive and endless and INCREASING embezzling scam, which they call "privatization", and give us a huge con job about to make the public accept it. So - war companies were privatized long ago, then always more government systems and services: pharma companies/vax companies, also prisons, more and more of the Post Office, the healthcare "insurance" industry in the US, etc. And the sociopathic money ADDICTS doing the embezzling scam have been taking chunks of the healthcare system in all countries they took over that provided good NATIONALIZED healthcare, so Oz and the UK and Canada and NZ and even Italy, Germany and other countries coopted by the US greedy liars have been seeing "problems" the liars made with their embezzling and privatization. The US even took over Russia and Ukraine in the 90s under puppet Yeltsin and privatized everything they could, embezzling and creating the "Russian oligarchs" Western propaganda tells us about now. Putin ended much of that embezzling in Russia when he got in, but the US and their corrupt criminal buddies always manipulate against any leader who resists US corruption plans and plundering. So in 2014 the US funded the neo-Nazis in Ukraine to overthrow the elected Ukraine president and to kill tens of thousands of Russian Ukrainians for several years until Putin finally felt he had to defend the people and try to stop the greedy murderers. Now we must be aware that the lying sociopaths have set up as PRIVATIZED all the entities to subjugate us under the guise of "protecting our health" and "saving the climate" - vax databases, digital IDs, ESG, social credit, carbon tracking,15-minute cities, etc. The scheme is to get insanely richer, embezzling TRILLIONS FOREVER from many governments in the corruption cartel the US built, while ensuring we are squashed and controlled so we can't rise up to stop their inhumanity, corruption and tyranny. Clever, but diabolical and EVIL. We must end the reign of lunatic sociopathic money ADDICTS in power who are totally derelict in their duty and unfit to govern!

ADHD meds are uniquE to the individual AND are NOT a "holy grail" solution. You still have to be present and conscious. ADHD meds help me slow down. It makes NON-ADHD people speed up. A tool is only as good as the user's ability to utilize and maximize the benefits. There are MANY tools, a lot of which are NOT meds. I, as an adult diagnosed too late in life, attend classes that teach other skills that help me connect to those around me and achieve shared understanding in a positive way. I do empathise with your struggle and would not presume to know more than you have shared. Gabor's views on ADHD meds are abhorent. He is a "no meds" advocate. An extreme position, no less troubling than a possition promoting big pharma rhetoric of "everyone needs meds". Its pseudo science in BOTH cases. You may be creative and a quick thinker. Its because your brian is skipping a step. In some cases it helps you get to a correct solution faster (but people don't listen because you did not make them feel listened to and understood). In other cases it hurts (you are only adept at focusing on ONE thing at a time) because you get to an answer faster... but its WRONG because you didn't pay attention to detail as you rushed ahead. ADHD meds don't help you with that if you are not conscious of it. I.e. slowing down does not matter if you don't use that time to make people around you feel LISTENED TO and UNDERSTOOD. I can tell muself to slow down on meds and I interupt FAR less (a normal amount for a non-adhd person). I do not have the ability to do that with much success off meds... even caffeen helps but it is not consistent like a slow release adhd med. Hang in there. Finding support of others who struggle with 1st ballot hall of fame ADHD as well, is an important part of my growth to manage my ADHD, while maximizing the super powers that also come with it... creativity, hyper focus, abundance of energy.

Why focus on the negative aspects of your life, when there is a faith that will lift me out of any pit that I might put myself in, if I focus on every bad thing that happened. This is why I said that God never gives us more than we can handle, if we have faith in His promise to be loving, then we can overcome any adversity or obstacles that might arise in our lives. This was a great conversation. Glad to see people at least attempting to cope with the epidemics of addiction and depression in a compassionate way. I’ve buried dozens of friends, family, and lovers… one friend just a few weeks back. This affects every strata and demographic, and concerns everyone. It’s important

Not really. It’s primarily about how we were parented in our early years and the effect that has had on our self-esteem, confidence, sense of security, abundance, and well-being, sense of identity, physical health, the list goes on. I get absolutely no exercise these days and yet I’m doing significantly better than I was a few years ago because I have healed some of my larger childhood traumas. The whole “diet and exercise” mantra is shallow.

You should have specified that those are your particular keys, not universal keys. I happen to agree with the first two, but social interactions are not only a very low priority for me and others like me, they can be very draining and reduce the quality of one's life, not enhance it. Some of us prefer social interactions with species other than humans, of which there are many.

Mental health : never under estimate the role of structure and function - how the musculoskeletal system and central nervous system interface. Neurosurgeons Hansasuta, Tubbs, Oakes published years ago that 3 out of 27 ‘ normal ‘ cadavers had an off midline fusion of the spinal cord in the sacrum. Why is this important ? It puts a torque in the entire neural tube. Changing CSF flow and pressures in the CNS. Changing the balance of sympathetic/ parasympathetic. Causing scoliosis. Often small posterior fossa is part of this. These people are vulnerable and more likely to have pain and anxiety and depression. Craniosacral therapy and acupuncture can help. The only way to not sometimes be depressed in this world is to be on drugs, whether recreational or medical. In the end the drug will stop working anyway. If you’re depressed for a month, too bad. If you’re depressed for a year, you’re probably going to have to change your life seriously. As for the toxic environment, what can you do? I make things, and that helps. Seek, and you shall find….

I think Glenn does miss a couple points: SSRI's were meant to replace the older, dangerous meds available to the depressed. Tricyclic antidepressants were considered the most dangerous class of drugs given to patients, and giving easily toxic meds to suicidal people creates an inherently dangerous dynamic. MAOI's aren't much better. Both also create dependence issues. Plus, the fairy tale of chemical imbalance relabeled the whining, weak, or malingering neurotics as being ill, victims of a treatable disease. It's almost a direct analogy to the treatment of addicts many want, to stop treating them as criminals and start seeing them as humans in need of care.

So have I. I think I'm fine now that college is twenty years behind me, but my doctor insists that I continue taking my Prozac. It seems to be so long ago, that she doesn't even remember why I'm on it. Not too long ago, she suggested that I go to college and I felt like saying, "Why do you think I'm on Prozac to begin with?". I know it's certainly an experience I wouldn't want to repeat (or wish upon anyone), but eh, if I hadn't lived through it, I might be tempted to make that mistake now.

Harm reduction sounds compassionate. We have tried it (several renditions of it). While we flood our addicts with love and attention we forget that crime to keep habits going happens to innocent people. That makes addicts a safety problem. However before now I did not think you went far enough concerning the lack off awareness, lack off compassion and induced addictions from the medical professionals. This power imbalance has been encouraged for far too long with many folks trusting doctors and the common narrative off popping pills as a cure all. People imo need connection, to be listened to, their stories heard with validating compassion in order to heal.
