@@raenastra True. Honestly, it is bit tilting sometimes when chat can recognize themselves from the things Dr.K talks about and relate to it, but go all spam- mode with "TRUE KEKW". I mean they kinda accept that what he said is true but it always makes me wonder that are they actually taking in what he is saying when their first reaction is to make fun and spam about it. Idk maybe I'm taking it too serious or overthinking but I genuinely wonder do they actually genuinely understand what he is saying and take the advice in when half of their attention is typing funny jokes and emotes in twitch chat. Then again, brushing it off with laughter is kinda natural reaction for us when something hits too much home for us because we don't want to feel emotions that make us uncomfortable. Too bad that with facing those emotions lies the pathway to actually doing something about the problem and potentially healing it. I understand what I just talked about is bit generalizing but this is just what I've been thinking about.

@@KanohiVahi I agree. He intentionally caters his content for the gaming community, which makes the environment much more casual. However, the environment is so casual that it's easy to take the quality of his content for granted. He's spent a significant amount of time studying and researching this stuff - we're lucky that he offers all of this for free. I wish the gaming community could stop memeing for a few minutes and take his information a bit more seriously. I get that professionalism is not expected from chat, but it could be much better.

Considering the ultimate question he's left with is why on Earth is this person leaving such bait, taking the bait is arguably essential to understanding their perspective. "Piss off" may be the most intuitive response, but it doesn't answer any of our curiosities about how they think or act. More to your point though, the troll is clearly basing the story on things that many of people in their modern existence actually struggle with in one form or another, and thus even taking the bait itself is useful without knowing it's bait, because it actually does apply to many people even if it doesn't apply to the one who created the thread.

Ghevi Sartor if u have to say i are to to prove u are nice that means u think u arent nice. Nice people dont go around saying they are nice, they think they are normal, they think they arent nice or they just think that their action is just normal. But still, that may not be what that person is trying to say. Its just that alot of creeps out there have the tendency to claim they are a nice guy when infact their action maybe nice but their motive isnt.
@AstonMartinStig
@AstonMartinStig 3 жыл бұрын
@@ghevisartor6005 Hello Ghevi. While I do agree with you that this is reductionist. However, words and phrases changes meaning with time, that is just how language works. The phrase "I'm nice" when given in this particular caller's context makes it creepy. Because in media/culture in the past decades or so, we see men being friendzoned ALL saying I am "nice." Like Yozuro-san said, these men are forcing favors onto their crush expecting something in return. Girls HATES that, makes their skin crawl. The phrase "I'm nice" is a warning sign for women, puts up red sirens all around their heads. Guess what? That was me when I was younger. I believe most young men go through that phase, at least those that are not fortunate enough to be born with extraordinary money and looks. I was being "nice" to the girls I was pursuing. I was not being "nice" I was being annoying and frankly a pest. The young girls are also learning how to deal with this "niceness" so they do not what to make of it. They put up with it for a while and just "friendzone" these men because the women too are "nice". Soon the woman will mature and realize these "nice" men are only being nice to them, it is not a trait of their character, but the men want something from that specific woman. From what I have learned, it is best to be "kind" and not "nice." Treat EVERYONE with "kindness", do not treat one person with "niceness." Smart women, especially the ones around my age, have very strong bullshit detectors. I'm sorry, that was off topic. Ghevi, only the first paragraph was directed at you. The rest are my own musing, please do not get offended. I do not want to assume anything about you, these are all comments on myself and my own experience. These were very painful lessons for me to learn, as I am sure most men have to. I hope my little blurb will help some young men in the future.
@ToyokaX
@ToyokaX 3 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the context. If your loved one says "you're so nice" and you reply "yea, I try to be as nice as I can" I think that's normal. However, if you tell someone "I'm a nice guy, I'll keep you safe" out of the blue to some random girl, it can be taken in many different directions, some of which are creepy. It's about how and what you say, to whom, and in what context.

Its not brand new in that sense. People have been awkward in real life too towards each other and their relationship. There are plenty of guys that are scared shitless to talk to girls irl and do awkward things to get attention. Thing with twitch is that anonymity helps you overcome a certain fear and money is the way to form connections. No matter who you are or what you look like. Guys like this feeds on the attention he gets and creates an illusion of an actual relationship.

I think simping results from the combination of 1) humans being addicted to easy/quick satisfaction and 2) the personal attention we desire from a relationship. I mean now all a simp has to do is show up every stream, type some things, and even donate and now they have this “real human” reacting to their existence. Like if a person didn’t have a lot going on in their life, all they have to do is go on Twitch, find an attractive girl, type in chat, and now they’re interacting with someone they couldn’t dream about interacting with in real life and all that with minimal effort.

Agreed. FWIW, I've been seeing a therapist since January of this year for what I was told is depression and generalized anxiety disorder, and on the 2nd visit when he told me my diagnosis, he mentioned the diagnosis itself isn't particularly important, as the treatment for my past of completely disengaging with the real world through internet use, gaming, etc. is going to be the same. What I gathered from that was that the label itself isn't too important, at least in my case anyway.

this is why TotalBiscuit from the beginning made a conscious effort to not read out donos or show the sub count because people grow an unhealthy attachment to streamers for the 2 seconds of recognition they obtain. there are a tonne of lonely people out there and streaming is absorbing people’s energy to take time out of their lives to interact with real people. edit: R.I.P TB. you were the prophet

Internet language is weird. Dr. K didn't "take the bait", he wasn't baited into doing anything. Someone just lied about having certain problems and Dr. K tried to help them anyways.

Yeah but there are actually people who do this, so who exactly is "taking the bait?" Regardless if that guy is trolling, there's some seriously crazy stuff that has happened because of guys simping out like this. Look up Grant Amato for example.

People still bait like this? I mean I know jebaiting a streamer to click on something/read something they weren't expecting can be pretty funny, but this is like some serious 2012 internet era trolling. As Dr K was reading the thing I couldn't help but imagine the embarrassment the dude must feel after realizing this stupid joke was going to be taken seriously lol. Either way it's fun though

love how Dr. K and chat are complete opposites, you have this absolute chad who has the ability to improve your mental health AND be able relate to you in some form since he understand gaming, social media, streaming, etc... and then there is the complete smooth brains in chat not taking this seriously because it may be a troll yet it's a real issue people are too afraid to reach out about because of the judgement they will receive

I think we're all making a huge mistake when we assume that anything too far out of the "norm" is just a "troll". Some of it might be, but even then it only works as a troll because it's often a reflection of something that actually exists.

I hope that guy goes on stream one day the troll. But more importantly I hope he finds someone with that type of story to go on stream one day too. Except for the spending money and modding of streamers, I find myself watching a lot of female streamers lately. I mostly lurk as it can be tough to interact when chat is rampant. I'm still trying to understand and wonder if its substituting for real relationships in some way for me. Maybe its safer and I can't get hurt this way? IDK.

It's kinda stupid like, Dr. K said, to have the time and "manufacture" a question for the lols. For the lols? Really? Or for attention? And that's not the problem, the problem was dr. K really gave an insight and really kinda dug deep to figure out answer to the question? Like really? You manufactured that question and it's just for the laughs? Or it's true and that's a legitamate question and you're just embarrassed and kinda use the term "it's just for the laughs" as a defence mechanism?

chat is luling and spamming the chat but they don't realize they are most likely also addicted to parasocial realtionship if they are one twitch spamming the chat. Parasocial relationship is the reason twitch exists. He was so close to saying there are people in his channel who has parasocial relationship but he stopped his sentence and changed the topic abruptly because he was the one whos benefiting from it.
