I agree but then it behooves us to mention that Dr. King was not the norm nor did he represent the majority. It's why he was so brilliant but that does not diminish the fact that there are still young adults who speak as he did and who have dreams like the one he had.

Recently people are taking his quote “Rioting is the language of the unheard” out of context he never supported violence in protests. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. must be disappointed in us. We never listened to his words after death. Did we not take him seriously?
@MrJkusmc23
@MrJkusmc23 4 жыл бұрын
He also said that as strongly as he condemned riots he equally condemned the conditions that led to them! It is ignorant to believe that they started just because somebody wanted a free TV. The media will use the riots as an excuse to avoid talking about the underlying issues that led to them.
@vinnyvin4287

@@MrJkusmc23 Everyone supported the Protesters before they committed acts of violence, even Donald Trump, and the Governor, if you do not believe me, google it. The entire state of MN, as I know you and I both are from MN, hopefully, as most rioters are actually from other states, and the world for that matter supported George, and demanded justice. But then the rioters fucked it all up, and committed acts of violence, against even innocent people -- not just people of the government, but also business people, small businesses, and even innocent civilians. I'm certain you heard of the man stoned nearly to death in Dallas just for trying to protect himself and the store, and then the national guard getting defeated by the riots, because they weren't armed with ammunition from what I hear. Most media, at least ones of the DNC, supports the riots -- elitists support the riots. Government control people, support the riots. I sympathize with you, and love you as a human, but I disagree your acts, you should've stayed peaceful (if you are a rioter), as scorching half the metropolis only harms your cause, as MLK said. But, as MLK also said, you can bomb our homes and threaten our children, and as difficult as it is, we will still love you.
@MrJkusmc23

@@vinnyvin4287 Thanks for sharing your views. I don't support the riots, but I understand why they are happening. I don't wish harm on anyone, but until the underlying issues are addressed and reforms are made the unrest will last.

I don't think you understand the point of nonviolence. The idea is to rally in places such as Birmingham and get racist white people to engage in violent actions and expose their hatred to the world. That is why they would practice methods to resist attacks and protect vital parts of the body before going to rallies. Your analogy about the woman getting raped is not accurate at all.

Why must our leaders weaken to pressure for violence, how can we call ourselves spiritual today if we kill and torture to eat? Thank you Dr. King, RIP, remember seeing you in August 1963 vividly as a young girl on the Mall with my grandmother and mother and sisters and baby brother. We rode 10 hours from Concord, MA by bus for the March on Washington. It changed the world. Why must our generation prove ignorant to King's, Gandhi's and Marley's legacies? Peace and love. One love!

it's interesting listening to this today, how stagnant our country has become, since this mans death. because there has been no one to stand up and take his place as a leader in the same philosophy he had in non violent activism. which he proved to be effective in accomplishing the goal by getting the point across intellectually and spiritually. the only way to impact someone is not just by making someone think with their brain but to reason within their hearts what is good and what is evil. this is ultimately forcing people to reason within themselves so that they can find the ultimate truth for themselves and thus peace and love makes an impact on the world.

Nonviolence is an extremely powerful way to win, he is right. Nonviolence automatically treats the enemy as a human, which is very hard for the enemy to ignore. The soul listens to that language. Also, it forces the enemy to recognize that if they use force. Then the protestors are indeed weak. Which means everything they are protesting for is indeed correct. With time, they will withdraw there attacks and ask the protesters to forgive them. Which means, they finally listened and recognized there flaw. The hard part is organizing and planning this. Everyone has to understand what they are protesting for.

+Benjamin Norton What i'm saying that the lack of fear of retalliation is what keeps getting us killed. If i knew that hurting you could cause my life or my loved one's lives to be in danger, you betcha sweet ass that you gon think 2 or 3 times b4 you try and lay a finger on me. Trust me on that one. If these police officers knew that one of our lives equaled 1 or more of theirs believe me things would change over night.

bilal0072003 Say you are hunting a bear. You know full well that bear could fuck you up, but you go hunting them anyway because that's what you do. The same applies to racists. They are not going to bend to heavy handed opposition. Common ground must be intrinsic in conflict resolution and prevention.
@bilal0072003
@bilal0072003 8 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin Norton Only problem with that analogy is that a bear can't pick up a gun and shoot back. If a bear could hunt you with the same tools then the outcome could be drastically different. Racists and bullies will bend quicker if they got sumpin to lose. I remember punching a bully in the face when I was a kid. He stopped messing with me and we actually were friends.

Martin Luther King Jr. is by far my greatest inspiration in life but I would argue that in some (extreme cases) a limited amount of violence is necessary to prevent more worse violence overall in certain circumstances (a case in which pacifism would allow more violence to occur overall and hence choosing peace would really be allowing more violence to occur which IMO is like causing it) therefore in my opinion some actions such as violence against terrorists (ie: troops in Afghanistan) is just.

There's no happiness in any tune we play. One grow up seeking dreams was formed up in their head, from thoughts one gather by images being displayed as the mind travel through places full of outer appearance, one believe is the show. Who was never told the inner appearance run the show. All tune's have some kind of blues to it, just like the tune's we know will end our hope, but the craziest thing one began to see, is those who out promoting the outer appearance they know will never be. It's hard to trust when you don't know what one might form up to be. From a society know exactly what they see, but still push one into it like it's something they can see. Tells me we all are doomed from those who got conditioned to the things they see. Make it hard for the consciousness to move around in peace and free because they know who designing the laws to be. Program America have no shame to their game, pushing the country into a cycle where poison minds had always been in our name.

The interviewer seems to insist the Gandhi advocated violence, yet his life was a living example of non-violence. He also pushed Dr. King saying that no other time has seen such violence as that time in the 1960s, which is certainly untrue ... look at the Civil War, WWI and World War II. There are countless examples of wars and conflicts going back thousands of years. Martin Luther King understood deeply the futility of war, aggression and violence.

Non violent resistance is the best answer. I have more admiration for Jews and others during WW2 who resisted using nonviolence as well as those resisting today in Tibet peacefully. Admiration is what I give to those who resisted in Eastern Europe, Jim Crowe South and Apartheid South Africa who resisted peacefully. We never win if we resort to being as vile as the enemy. Love drives out hate. That is what Jesus Christ my Savior taught and many (Henry David Thearou, Gandhi and MLK) followed. We must love each other

Did you even read the rest of Gandhi's letter? "But your own writings and pronouncements and those of your friends and admirers leave no room for doubt that many of your acts are monstrous and unbecoming of human dignity, especially in the estimation of men like me who believe in universal friendliness. Such are your humiliation of Czechoslovakia, the rape of Poland and the swallowing of Denmark".

I'm in the midst of a peaceful protest in the neighborhood of a state I moved to completely unaware of the bizarre tense southern influence and the black oppression prior to coming here. Weirdly enough its not the south I moved to, but to the west. Oregon. I could tell you alot of things but I'd rather not. (unless you're interested). I've already witnessed and experienced such insensitivities that I wouldn't want anyone reading to be stirred... Think your a strong black person? I did. But in a place like Oregon, it is not recognized and it will test what you think you know about yourself to every degree of your bones. Luckily I'm moving back to my home state in two months. I will say this.. They are very happy that I will be leaving and have become very honest about it and my "Northern intrusion" this week now that its close to my move.

This is how you achieve equivalencies. Equivalence is peace, and violence can not bring equivalence and peace. Perhaps the BLM movements is seeking for vengeance, instead of peace. Protesting with violence will gain hostility; protesting with peace will gain sympathy.
