🧠 If you think men’s and women’s brains are different, you couldn't be more right! But how are they different? Knowing the gender differences in nutrition and exercise can help us have a better and healthier life 🌱. In this video, you’ll learn all about it from Dr. Lisa Mosconi, a Ph.D. who’s founder and director of the Women’s Brain Initiative, associate director of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Clinic, and associate professor of Neuroscience in Neurology and Radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine. 👩‍⚕️
Vishen and Dr. Lisa Mosconi discuss how our genetics, environment, and lifestyle shape our brains, focusing especially on women 💃. They go from the connection between menopause and women’s brains and what they can do to understand their brains through this process to gender differences in nutrition and exercise that women need to be aware of. Do you want to finally know the nutrients that women need to pay attention to and why “The stress literally steals your sex hormones,” as Dr. Lisa says? Then don’t waste any more time and go straight to this awesome video! ✨

Almost all the women I know drink too much coffee and eat too much chocolate, nuts, and seeds already, and eat plenty of berries. She also recommends that women drink one glass of red wine every day. Maybe this is good advice for Italians, but American women have been following these recommendations for decades, have gotten addicted to coffee and chocolate, drink wine everyday, and have forgotten to eat real food.

I love that Lisa supports the nutrients coming from food. There are many nutrients in food that haven’t yet been identified that benefit us and aren’t found in supplements. Although some supplements might help someone feel sharper due to helping circulation or alertness, I believe food is the most important. It may take more time but you can actually change and improve the cells of the brain. I do agree that MCT oil and natural herbs and spices can benefit the brain. Sugar is. detrimental to the brain and body. Also, exercising the brain is so important such as puzzles, brain games, learning something new etc. Positive thoughts instead of negative thoughts can change the neural pathways of how we think and act. It’s exciting how much we can improve our brain and overall health when we set the wheels in motion. I read about Dr. Terry Wahls, a conventional doctor that got MS and tried the conventional way and got worse. She then developed a brain rich food diet and turned her health completely around. I’ve been studying nutrition for several years and it’s just now getting recognized as important for brain health.

The key speaker Lisa may be a scientist, but she has no idea about what she's talking about regarding supplements. She knows nothing about them at all, so why was she even speaking about them. She didn't speak on them because she doesn't want people to be knowledgeable about how to care for themselves.

😂😂😂😂 I think she told you the things to eat, Vit B9, Omegas, Tumeric, antioxidents, and told you the foods they were in too What are you talking about? This woman has top information on how to feed your brain to avoid brainfog, shrinkage, and the damage of fluctuating hormones. She said what's absolutely essential if you're a veg Also she advised that stress destroys womens brains. Avoid stress. Like what more did you want? For her to hand you your turmeric, omega 3/6/9s, vit C&D, & B complex? And a square of dark chocolate... Shes a smart cookie, Vishen needs to cop on treating such a gracious, intelligent, entertaining guest in such an offhand way. @pamelavance9306

Dear Lisa, I am been diagnosed with osteoporosis, I am 53 years old, and it seems I have some years already living with this situation. I have a high level of stress, as I am a single mom, and have so many responsibilities in my life. Regardless of this, I do practice Yoga as it helps my confidence and I love to do so. Still, I had a huge accident 25 years ago, and I have a Lefort lV,. I am so grateful to find you because I am been given a medicine to have and I am still not using, it because of the second effects and the anxiety that causes me the fact of using it. I am in a steady routine where I am doing Kundalini Yoga, which focuses on the Endocrine System and the Brain, the Glands, The lymphatic System, and the Breath of Fire. I swim twice a week, and still after seeing you, I feel like I don't know all or enough, is there anything else you suggest to me that can help me advocate for my health? and that I can ask my doctor if will help to improve and to stop the effects of Osteoporosis? Thank you and I wish you long and healthy life!

Excellent questions by commentator. Problem is especially older people do not eat well anymore. They are tired and possible injured or diseased and do not feel like cooking. Many do not have the money to buy the better foods., so I am big fan of trying to replace vitamins with supplements. If your older you know things did taste better thirty plus years ago, it’s not our taste buds like they always want to say, we have to many additives, to much sugar and fats and things we can’t even pronounce.

I believe in supplements !!! My son was very sick for months. I have a biomedical science degree. He saw many doctors and none helped. I checked my son's blood work and bought the vitamins that I felt was right. Only 4 different vitamins he is taking. After my son taking them for a week, now my son feels amazing 🥰

I took 25mg of Zinc for two days in 2020 and I started having neurological breast pains so I stopped taking zinc. Then within about 36-48 hours the breast pains stopped. In 2015-6, while I was doing some research for a woman that had fibroids, I found that women during and after menopause should increase their iron intake to nearly 2/3rds of what was necessary prior to menopause.

A very inspiring and revealing conversation on women’s brain health in midlife in relation to pressures like menopause , stress etc. I support the fact that menopause is under- researched and under- discussed which leaves a lot of women in limbo and perhaps confused about symptoms experienced following menopause and the staggering effects on health at midlife especially when these linger for long. I love the name ‘ bikini medicine’ and the importance of giving this area the much needed attention. Education with Lifestyle modification are critical in overcoming the blues at midlife.

For women's brains, take antioxidants through diet mainly: fruits and veg, nuts and seeds, raw dark chocolate, coffee (single expresso with cold milk so that fat slows down release of caffeine), flavonoids. Supplements not really that ideal. Vit c, vit e, selenium are antioxidants too.

Her thoughts on supplements: healthy diet first (Mediterranean diet excellent for women), liquid supplements are more bioavailable. Take B12, B6, b9 are important anti aging. Omega 3 fatty acids unless contraindications to it, DHA EPA complex.

We need more studies in regard to chemical or chemotherapy induced menopause. The only thing I have found is in regard to breast cancer. What about other cancers like leukemia, treatment given is cyclophosphamide, which really damages the ovaries. The chemo also causes much more severe menopausal symptoms, but the question is how long does this last, who is most affected, how can we shorten the duration, these are questions many have. Could someone please focus on more on this.

Just thinking out loud...it doesnt make sense, that the birther of the human race has been neglected in medicine. Its not just about equality. How women are, let's say at pregnancy, physiology wise, will have direct impact of her child...and these would have rippling effects on the family dynamics, psychology and etc, impacting the child (male or female) for the rest of its life. I for one, as a female, didnt understood the scope of this neglect, until recent flourishing of such conversations. So thank you for bringing such topics on your platform and expanding all of our minds today.

I've just been tested for deficiencies and the only one that they could find was folic acid. People have to eat to suit their health conditions, and everyone's requirements are different for obvious reasons, menu's have to be tailor made for the systems in the body where the health conditions stem. The issue is that has women get older it can impact on appetite and you don't have any appetite to eat and so cook, that then impacts on what nutrients the body is receiving and also what supplements a person can take to help their health conditions.

Great podcast i think I’ll be going down this rabbit hole and buy her books. Would have loved for the host to have given the other guest the karate champ lady a chance to have spoken though I really wanted to hear what she had to add 😐
